The Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact have the best battery life among most of the latest Android flagships that money can currently buy, Strategy Analytics said earlier this week following a study it was asked to do by Sony but ended up conducting independently. According to the research firm’s findings, the Xperia XZ2 can survive over 36 hours on a single charge in a “typical user scenario,” with the Xperia XZ2 Compact being estimated to last for 34 hours and 20 minutes under identical circumstances. The LG G6, Huawei P10, and the Apple iPhone X were all found to hover above the 32-hour mark in the same test, with the Samsung Galaxy S9 being far behind them, scoring less than 27 hours on a single charge. The OPPO R11 was found to have the weakest battery life among all smartphones tested by the company, with Strategy Analytics concluding users can only expect around 16 and a half hours on a single charge in everyday conditions.
The “typical user scenario” referred to by the research denotes a combination of battery-draining apps and active smartphone usage spanning approximately 16 hours over a single day. All of the tested devices received a set of alerts during testing, with their display brightness being set at 150 nits and their sound volume outputs being maximized. Every model was otherwise used under its default system settings recommended by its respective manufacturer, with all tests being conducted twice and the results seen below being the median scores. The methodology used by Strategy Analytics Milton Keynes, UK-based facility is hence relatively scientific and presented by the company as an accurate indicator of what kind of battery life users can expect from some of the latest (Android) flagships on the market.
Strategy Analytics performed its tests earlier this month but hadn’t subjected the more recently released P20 lineup from Huawei or LG’s V30 and V30S ThinQ series to the same trials. While Sony asked for the study to be conducted, the research firm is understood to have financed all tests independently as it hasn’t disclosed otherwise. The Xperia XZ2 family is presently available for pre-orders in the United States and can already be purchased in the United Kingdom and a number of other European markets.
