Verizon Wireless has been rumored to release a Palm device in 2018, according to a report from Android Police who spoke to a “trusted source.” There are little details about the device other than the fact that it will be manufactured by TCL who purchased the rights to use the Palm brand for future products, and it will keep the Palm branding similar to what TCL is doing with its BlackBerry devices. The phone will also come with Android software, but that is about the only information that seems to have surfaced about the phone for now, which means there’s no telling when exactly Verizon and TCL will launch this phone, or what it will cost.

Though the phone is coming from TCL and many of TCL’s phones tend to lean more towards the mid-tier and low-end sides of the device market, it has also put out some devices with high-end specs, so when it comes to features and hardware it could really go either way. It also shouldn’t be too surprising that TCL would choose to keep the Palm name for this device and likely future devices, as the name Palm has been synonymous with smartphones at one point or another. It’s well-recognized and towards the end of Palm’s lifespan Verizon was even a big partner for Palm, so the carrier choice for TCL shouldn’t be too much of a surprise either.

While there is much that is very unclear about this particular device, more information will eventually surface whether it’s in regards to the phone no longer heading towards a planned launch or whether it’s more information about the launch and what sorts of features it will have. If the two companies do end up launching a new Palm phone together, this will be the first Palm device to hit the market in quite some time, so it should be interesting to see what shape the device takes, so to speak.
