Alexa Skill Blueprints let you create custom responses and customized Alexa Skills for your personal pleasure and added convenience, and judging by Amazon’s description of the new function for its smart digital assistant, users of Alexa-powered devices like the Echo will have a wide array of possible options on bringing a little more personalization to their Alexa experiences. Right now there are only 20 skill blueprints that are ready for use but Amazon says more are on the way and that the blueprints will continue to expand to an even larger library of possibilities. As for what types of skills can already be created there are options for everything from making “sick burns to roast your friends” to creating a set of flash cards so that you or someone you know can get some help studying for that big test.
Amazon says the process is pretty easy for creating a skill and that it can be done in just a few easy steps, and as shown in the screenshots below the process does seem to be pretty straightforward without too many things that could trip up the average user. To make things even simpler Amazon has separated all the different blueprints out into their own respective categories with a handful in each one so users should find what they’re looking for without much of an issue, if there are any issues at all.
So far the currently available Blueprints categories are At Home, Featured, Fun & Games, Learning & Knowledge, and Storyteller, though as mentioned above Amazon plans to continually launch more blueprints over time so users should expect more categories to pop up as well at some point, as these are just the ones which are available alongside the launch of Alexa Blueprints today. Amazon hasn’t set a limit on how many skills can be created by users, but it has set a limit on where the feature is available as it’s currently only live for users in the U.S. with no word on when it will expand to other regions.
