ASUS has announced a mesh router system called the Lyra Trio to compete against the growing list of devices in the same space, like Google Wifi, Netgear Orbi, and others. The Lyra Trio will be launched officially on May 1, though it is already available to pre-order through Amazon at a cost of $299, and as the name suggests the Lyra Trio is a three-pack system so you’ll get the main router hub/unit that plugs into the modem, and two additional hubs that will link to the main unit to assist in whole-home coverage of the wireless network. That said, the trio part in the name does not actually refer to the system being a three-pack, and instead refers to the three sides of the router. You can also buy the Lyra Trio in a one-pack or two-pack setup as these will be more relevant for smaller spaces.
At $299 the price might seem like it’s a little bit steep but initially Google was charging the same amount for its three-pack of Google Wifi mesh router systems, so ASUS is really right on point with the cost. As with any mesh Wi-Fi system the Lyra Trio router hubs all form one large wireless network, so it’s essentially like having a router that covers the entire surface of your home or having multiple routers connected throughout the house. ASUS boasts that the Lyra Trio setup process is pretty simple while also delivering strong security so you can be assured that your browsing and sensitive information is safe from those who might seek to acquire it.
Perhaps best of all for those who aren’t exactly the most tech-savvy is that firmware updates couldn’t be simpler. According to ASUS updating the firmware only takes one click, so there shouldn’t be too much trouble in making sure the software on the router is as up to date as possible whenever ASUS releases it. Much like other similar devices, all the monitoring and management can be done through a companion app, in this case the ASUS Lyra Trio app. For those that have an Echo or other similar speakers that are powered by Alexa, the Lyra Trio is compatible with Alexa as well, which means voice control.
