Marvel Contest of Champions, Angry Birds 2, and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom are some of two dozen apps and games Google honored as part of the latest update to its Android Excellence program, the Alphabet-owned company said Thursday. Originally introduced in mid-2017, the initiative is meant to highlight the very best of what the Android ecosystem has to offer in terms of software, i.e. apps. The list of honorees is refreshed on a quarterly basis and isn’t limited to new releases, with a number of titles named as part of the latest update being established names on the Google Play Store for many years now.
Besides the two aforementioned games, the April edition of the Android Excellence program also highlighted Into the Dead 2, Orbital 1, Little Panda Restaurant, CodyCross, Azur Lane, Soul Knight, Rooms of Doom, Sling Kong, and Sky Dancer Run. The majority of the honored games are of the casual variety, being designed for short gameplay sessions suitable for gaming on the go. The list of new Android Excellence apps is significantly more varied as it includes everything from multimedia-focused offerings such as PhotoGrid and Keepsafe Photo Vault, fitness services like Runtastic Results and Seven – 7 Minute Workout Training Challenge, as well as DIY tools including iCook and SoloLearn: Learn to Code for Free. Google also applauded Holstelworld, Dashlane, Keeper Password Manager, WPS Office, Mobisystems OfficeSuite, and Tube Map as part of the latest update to its Android software excellence platform.
The app highlighting program is separate from various other Play Store sections meant to promote Google’s top Android app picks directly on its digital marketplace, though all honorees from both categories can also be found on the online storefront by referring to the banners below. The company’s newly awarded apps are available for download on a global level and should be compatible with the vast majority of modern Android smartphones and tablets. While there’s no rule against a single developer or publisher being honored for more than one app or game at a time, the team running the Android Excellence program hasn’t opted for such a move to date.
