The Honor 7X debuted last fall – just as Google was rolling out the Oreo update – and it is now getting its first operating system update. Which brings it from Android Nougat up to Android Oreo. It also brings a few other changes, like the latest version of Honor’s Android skin, EMUI 8.0. This brings in a slew of new features, including Face Unlock. That’s a feature that is seemingly making its way over to every single Android smartphone these days, and it is here on the $200 Honor 7X.

Some of the changes that Honor is highlighting on this update is Quick Shortcut menus from the app icons. This feature has been part of stock Android for a couple of years now, so it’s good to see it here. Honor has added a new floating navigation dock, which allows users to navigate their device from anywhere on the screen. Honor has updated the Settings menu and Phone Manager, as well as introduced a Photo Gallery Recycle Bin. This means that if you did delete a photo from the phone, and you didn’t mean too, it’ll remain on your device for 30 days, so you are able to restore it. Finally, users can now link up two Bluetooth devices to the Honor 7X at the same time. Those are just some of the features available in the Android Oreo and EMUI 8.0 update for the Honor 7X. Of course, you get many of the Oreo features here as well, like Autofill.

The update is rolling out now to the Honor 7X, so if you do own the device, you should see it hitting your device in the next few days. It’ll likely be a rather large update for the Honor 7X, so you’ll want to make sure that you are connected to WiFi, and have almost a full charge before you begin updating. In fact, it won’t update if you have less than 50-percent charge on the Honor 7X, so it’s a good idea to plug it in while it updates.
