If the newly-leaked info is to be believed, Huawei’s rumored Kirin OS may come pre-installed on the upcoming Honor Play smartphone. Honor had scheduled an event for June 6 recently, and during that event, the company will announce its Honor Play smartphone. Now, the device is said to feature some interesting new feature or tech, at least according to the company’s teasers, and even though rumors suggested it may be AI-based 4D gaming and camera features, which is still a possibility, the phone is now said to ship with Kirin OS as well.

Huawei has allegedly been working on its own operating system for quite some time now, and that OS may debut on the Honor Play. A Chinese tipster shared two images of the alleged Honor Play smartphone, the first image shows the phone itself, while the second one shows software about screen of some device, but almost certainly not the upcoming Honor Play, you’ll find out why in a second. If you take a look at the first image, you will notice that it has Kirin OS branding on the display, while it also says “Powered by Linux” below it. The date is also included on the display, it says that the device will arrive on June 6, and a display notch is also present on the phone. The device sports really thin bezels, while all of its physical keys are included on the right. This phone’s lockscreen does resemble EMUI’s lockscreen, but the status bar icons are a bit different. Now, the second image in the seemingly reveals OS version and display resolution, but this screenshot dates back to May 2015, so it’s probably not connected to the upcoming device in no way, shape or form, even though it does seemingly confirm Kirin OS’ existence.

Now, just because of that dated screenshot, you should definitely take this rumor with a grain of salt, as it is possible that Huawei developed Kirin OS a couple of years ago, and then dropped the project altogether in order to focus on Android. On the other hand, it is possible that the company is planning to bring Kirin OS to the market, but chances are it will remain exclusive to China, or perhaps even replace EMUI as an Android skin. We’re only guessing here, but Huawei is doing really well with Android, and pushing its very own OS to the market is definitely a risky move.
