Virtual reality content company NextVR is adding an NBA 2017/18 MVP highlight reel to its Android app, as well as its streaming service on other platforms. Owners of the Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Go, PlayStation VR, and Mixed Reality headsets for Windows-powered computers can hence now enjoy such best-of compilations on their system of choice, even if they aren’t NBA League Pass holders. Users are still able to purchase a subscription to watch live games from the NextVR app itself or log into the service with their existing login details if they have obtained the NBA League Pass elsewhere.

Besides MVP highlights, NextVR is also recapping the best moments of this season’s rookies – Jayson Tatum, Donovon Mitchell, and Ben Simmons. The Newport Beach-based broadcasting company has been collaborating with the NBA for some time now, having already launched its streaming service in numerous countries. While popular among tech-savvy sports fans, NextVR is positioning its platform as the ultimate content hub for VR content, offering a wide variety of sports and other forms of entertainment across numerous platforms. The firm’s solution allows for streaming of both 180- and 360-degree content, with its sports video library including everything from games and highlights to interviews, analyses, and behind-the-scenes footage.

The Android version of the NextVR app is some 35MB in size and can be downloaded by referring to the Google Play Store banner below. The service requires a device running Android 7.0 Nougat or a later build of Google’s mobile operating system but still isn’t available globally and doesn’t support every smartphone fulfilling its software prerequisites. VR as a whole is still in its infancy, with the latest trend in the industry being standalone headsets such as Oculus Go and Lenovo’s Mirage Solo.
