South Korean smartphone maker Samsung has introduced two new mid-range smartphones under its J series – the Galaxy J6 and the Galaxy J8. Both the new devices pack an Infinity Display with a taller 18.5:9 aspect ratio, a first for the Galaxy J lineup. The two devices have leaked quite a lot of times before going official earlier today at an event in India. Samsung will make the Galaxy J6 available for purchase in the South Asian country before rolling it out to other international markets. It will go on sale starting tomorrow, May 22, in Black, Blue, and Gold color options via Flipkart, Samsung Shop, and Paytm Mall along with a one-time screen replacement offer. Its base variant with 3GB of RAM is priced at Rs. 13,990 (~$206) while the 4GB RAM variant costs Rs. 16,490 (~$242). An additional cashback of Rs. 1,500 (~$22) will be offered to the ICICI bank card holders. On the other hand, the Galaxy J8 will go on sale in July with a price tag of Rs. 18,990 ($279).

An India-specific feature called Samsung Mall will come included in both the phones along with others like Chat Over Video and face unlock. The Galaxy J6 is positioned below the J8, both in terms of price as well as the included set of features. It boasts a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display with an HD+ resolution of 1,480 y 720 pixels in the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The dual-SIM handset is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870 SoC and will be sold in two RAM and storage variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and another with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is a single rear-facing 13-megapixel (f/1.9) camera sensor on the Galaxy J6 paired with a front-facing 8-megapixel camera sensor, both of which are supported by an LED flash. A 3,000mAh battery completes the package.

The Galaxy J8 features a slightly improved set of internals including a larger 6-inch Super AMOLED display with the same HD+ resolution as the J6. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor fuels the J8 which will be offered in only one variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash memory. Unlike the J6, the J8 includes a dual-camera setup on its back with a 16-megapixel (f/1.7) primary sensor together with a 5-megapixel (f/1.9) secondary sensor. A 16-megapixel (f/1.9) camera can be found on the phone’s opposite side coupled with an LED flash with the phone packing a larger 3,500mAh battery. Both the mid-rangers feature a Galaxy S9-like fingerprint scanner placed on their back, below the camera module. The two devices come pre-loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience 9.0 UI out of the box and have retained their 3.5mm headphone port. A dedicated memory card slot is also a part of both the Galaxy J6 and J8 smartphones that can take up to a 256GB microSD card.
