Sharp has announced its new flagship, the Sharp AQUOS R2. This is a direct successor to the company’s AQUOS R handset that was announced last year in Japan, and this new smartphone has been introduced in Japan as well. How, the Sharp AQUOS R2 is made out of metal and glass, while both of its physical keys are included on the right. The phone comes with rather thin bezels, and a ‘chin’ below the display which houses the phone’s fingerprint scanner / home key. There are two cameras included on the back fo the phone, and they’re vertically-aligned, while an LED flash is located next to those two cameras. The phone’s display sports rounded corners, and its two cameras protrude on the back, they’re not exactly flush with the phone’s back side.

This handset features a 6-inch QHD+ (3040 x 1440) IGZO display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it, while a display notch is present here as well. This display has a refresh rate of 100Hz, and we’re looking at 19:9 display aspect ratio here. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while it packs in 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of storage which you can expand using a microSD card. Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on the Sharp AQUOS R2, while a 3,130mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it is not removable. Speaking of which, the Sharp AQUOS R2 also comes with fast charging, even though Sharp did not specify what fast charging tech are we looking at here, though it’s probably Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, or something of the sort. A 22.6-megapixel camera is included on the back, along with a 16.3-megapixel (135-degree ultra-wide-angle lens) camera. A 16.3-megapixel camera is included on the front side of the phone as well, though it seems like we’re looking at a different lens in this case.

The Sharp AQUOS R2 is both water and dust resistant, as it comes with an IPX5 rating, and the phone also packs in Bluetooth 5.0. A Type-C USB port is included on the bottom of the phone, while the device also comes with support for Dolby Vision. The phone measures 156 x 74 x 9mm, while it weighs 181 grams. The Sharp AQUOS R2 comes in Premium Black, Platinum White, Aquamarine, Coral Pink, and Rose Red color variants, while it will become available later this summer. Sharp did not share any info when it comes to the phone’s pricing just yet, so stay tuned for that.
