T-Mobile finalized its custom build of Android 8.0 Oreo for LG V30 units on its network but the wireless carrier has yet to start deploying the updated in the form of an over-the-air package. For the time being, owners of LG’s 2017 Android flagship are only able to install the new firmware by sideloading it through LG Bridge or the company’s UP management program for desktops. The Bellevue, Washington-based mobile service provider has yet to clarify on the matter in any capacity and it remains to be seen how long the firm takes to start rolling out the latest software package to eligible smartphones on its network.
Sprint already upgraded all LG V30 units of its subscribers to Android 8.0 Oreo in March, as did AT&T. Verizon started deploying the same firmware last month and is also understood to have already completed the rollout. The Seoul-based tech giant finalized its proprietary Android implementation for the LG V30 late last year but has yet to distribute it on a global level, though many markets already received the new operating system upgrade, including its home country of South Korea. Besides vanilla Android 8.0 Oreo improvements developed by Google, the new OS build also brings a number of artificial intelligence features from the LG V30S ThinQ to the regular V30, including numerous AI Cam capabilities meant to improve one’s mobile photography experience. Earlier this week, LG announced its latest Android flagship in the form of the G7 ThinQ, with that particular device running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, together with Google’s Project Treble, a reworked OS framework that should accelerate the process of developing and testing future OTA updates for the device, at least in theory. The handset still doesn’t have a firm release date attached to it but will become available for pre-orders in the U.S. and a number of other markets late this month and is expected to become available for purchase in June.
