Verizon has started rolling out a software package to the LG G6, which will upgrade the handset’s operating system to Android 8.0 Oreo. This deployment comes several weeks after the smartphone started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in South Korea, and this update brings a number of features to the device, including the Picture-in-Picture mode, the notification channels feature, the notification badges, and the support for high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs. The Picture-in-Picture mode permits people to view two applications at the same time by showing one app in a smaller window on top of another application. Meanwhile, the notification channels feature enables users to control the way the operating system handles the notifications sent by apps. On the other hand, notification badges alert the user on which applications have notifications directly on the home screen.
This software package also includes several software features and modifications that are specific to the LG G6. These include a device moisture warning, which alerts users and prevents charging if water is detected on the USB port, while the search capability of the device settings has been improved to allow users to look for the title of the setting, description, or a specific application. In addition, if the fingerprint sensor fails to detect the user’s finger for 20 consecutive tries, people will now have to use other forms of unlocking the device, like PIN, Password, or Pattern. The software update also brings the April 2018 Android security patch to the LG G6. This security fix resolves a number of issues, including critical vulnerabilities found in the media framework and the system portion of the Android operating system.
Before downloading the software package, users should verify first if the handset has sufficient free space in the internal storage to temporarily keep the update file, which has a size of 1.89GB. Furthermore, it is advisable to back up the files and images stored in the handset to a microSD card or a personal computer to prevent loss of important data. The LG G6 was unveiled by the South Korean tech giant early last year, and it is powered by the Snapdragon 821 chipset. The device includes 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and it sports a 5.7-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
