Vivo started sending out invites to local media in India for an event scheduled for May 29. Besides the launch date, the invite includes the letter ‘X’ in its background, hinting at an X-series announcement. A couple of days back, the Chinese brand was said to be planning to bring its X21 UD smartphone with an under-display fingerprint scanner to the Indian market and this event is expected to mark the phone’s debut in India. The invitation doesn’t shell out any other details on the matter. Even though Vivo launched two variants of the X21 smartphone in China back in March, only one of the variants – the one with an under-display fingerprint reader – will reportedly arrive to India.

After being available exclusively in China for over a month, the Vivo X21 UD recently made its first international debut in Singapore. India was said to be its next destination, being one of the key markets for the Chinese smartphone maker. A recent rumor suggested that the handset sporting the advanced fingerprint scanner technology will be arriving in India at a price of Rs. 34,990 ($520). In comparison, the same variant was made available in China for 3,598 yuan ($568). The phone includes a 6.28-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display in a 19:9 aspect ratio that has a notched design. It includes 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and is powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC with the Adreno 512 GPU. The dual-SIM phone comes pre-installed with Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. A pair of 12- and 5-megapixel cameras can be found on its back, along with a front-facing 12-megapixel camera. The Vivo X21 supports Hi-Fi audio output via its 3.5mm headphone jack and includes a 3,200mAh battery.

The Chinese OEM launched the X20 Plus UD as its first smartphone with an under-display fingerprint reader earlier this year and replaced it with the X21 UD soon afterward. The latter is expected to be released in more markets outside of China. Earlier today, an alleged Vivo device named the X21i received certification from TENAA. Considering the provided images, specifications, and the fact that it lacks an under-display fingerprint scanner, the phone appears to be a toned-down version of the Vivo X21 UD.
