Earlier this week, YouTube announced its new YouTube Premium (the YouTube Red rebranding) and a new, revamped version of YouTube Music, which is slated to go live next week. With these new products, YouTube Premium’s price goes up to $11.99 and is no longer included when you purchase YouTube Music for $9.99. However, YouTube wasn’t explicitly clear about what would happen with current users. It appeared that current users may only get YouTube Music for their current price. But that’s not the case, YouTube has confirmed over on Twitter that current Google Play Music/YouTube Red subscribers will get Google Play Music, YouTube Music and YouTube Premium for their current price (which for many is $9.99).

YouTube also confirmed that family plan users will also be grandfathered into the new YouTube Premium and YouTube Music services at their price of $14.99. Which is still a pretty good deal. So there’s no need to worry about a price increase right now, as that is only for new users. YouTube did also state that it will continue to provide a one-month free trial for all that wish to try out YouTube Music and/or YouTube Premium. So you can still check it out before you are ready to pay for it.

YouTube Premium is essentially a rebranding of YouTube Red, even though it is going to cost slightly more at $11.99 per month. You get all of the same features as before, with YouTube Originals, ad-free viewing and background playback, among a few other features. The big change here is with YouTube Music. The company is revamping the app, making it easier to find new music, as well as getting better at recommending music for you to check out. This means that discovery should be a bit better with the revamped YouTube Music app. And of course, there will be music videos available for most of the songs here, so you can watch and listen to your favorite music, no matter where you are. YouTube Music and YouTube Premium will begin rolling out on May 22nd (this coming Tuesday), so if you want to get in for a cheaper price, now is the time to do so.
