The first known camera samples of the Xperia XZ2 Premium appeared online earlier this week, having been authored and shared by tech blog Mobile01 which managed to obtain a pre-production unit of Sony’s latest Android flagship. The results seen in the gallery below are quite impressive, showing an extremely high dynamic range and being indicative of accurate exposure and white balance calibration mechanisms. The source tested both daylight and low-light photography, having also attempted several macro shots with the Xperia XZ2 Premium and concluding that the device is an extremely capable imaging tool. As the smartphone used for taking the newly emerged photographs was a pre-production affair, its software still hasn’t been finalized and the models that end up being offered to consumers may boast even more impressive imaging capabilities.
Originally announced in mid-April, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is being touted as Sony’s most powerful Android handset to date. While the Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer already embraced the trend of bezel-less 18:9 devices earlier this year, its new flagship sticks with the 16:9 aspect ratio as it’s still geared toward multimedia enthusiasts. As Sony’s designers recently revealed, the company wanted to avoid delivering a media-focused device with an elongated screen as doing so would force users to look at more black bars than what they deemed necessary.
The back side of the 5.8-inch phablet features a dual-camera setup entailing a 19-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel one, with the former being an RGB module mounted behind an f/1.8 lens, whereas the latter is a monochrome unit utilizing an f/1.6 lens. Predictive phase detection and electronic image stabilization are part of the package as well, together with a laser autofocusing system and a dual-LED (dual-tone) flash unit. The Xperia XZ2 Premium is expected to begin retailing on a global level by the end of the month, though Sony has yet to officially disclose its pricing details.
