The Android 8.0 (Oreo) update for the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV once again seems to be in the process of rolling out to device owners. NVIDIA has yet to confirm the resuming of the update rollout, although an increasing number of GeForce Forum members (as well as some on Reddit) have reported receiving the update within the last 24 hours. In addition, users in different parts of the world have confirmed the availability of the new update, so this does not seem to be resigned to any specific region.

NVIDIA had previously started rolling out Oreo to the SHIELD Android TV back in May although the update was then halted due to a number of unconfirmed issues. Since then, there has been no word on what those issues were, and as this latest update has not been officially announced as of yet there is still no new information on the nature of the issues or what fixes have now been included with the new update. In either case, it’s very clear this is not the same update, but a revised one, as almost all of the GeForce Forum members who have received the new update have confirmed the new version arrives as SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.0.1. This is important as the original (and pulled) update was SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.0.0. So the very fact this is an incremental update would lead to the assumption it is considered a fixed version, compared to the original update.

As was the case with the original update, this one is based on a staged rollout approach and is currently only being made available to those who had previously signed up to the preview program offered by NVIDIA. Therefore preview users who had expected to receive the update before it was pulled, should see the new version arriving soon, if it has not already. Likewise, as this is a incremental (and different) update compared to the original one, it should also be assumed it will be made available to those who are already running the original SHIELD Android TV Oreo update. Though the size of the new update for existing Oreo users is likely to be much smaller than the full update now rolling out to those upgrading from Nougat.
