Sony will be holding its IFA 2018 press conference on August 30, 2018, starting at 1 PM CEST, the company said. The smartphone manufacturer is known for releasing new handsets twice a year and is expected to launch its latest Android smartphones at the upcoming event. Around the same time last year, the Japanese tech firm revealed two high-end devices, the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact, and one budget device in the form of the Xperia XA1 Plus.

Even though it is not yet clear how many devices will the tech giant unveil at the event, it is likely that Sony will use the occasion to announce the Xperia XZ3 lineup. Some benchmarks and premature product listings already provided details regarding the specifications of the Xperia XZ3. The smartphone is rumored to ship with four cameras, i.e. two twin-lens systems, one on each side. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset will likely power the handset, along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage. The smartphone will reportedly sport a 5.9-inch display with a resolution of 2,880 by 1,440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. From a design perspective, the handset is likely to be similar to last year’s Xperia XZ2 line.

Recent rumors also state that Sony is already working on the Xperia XZ3 Premium, which will likely to succeed the Xperia XZ2 Premium that was announced earlier this year. The upcoming handset will reportedly sport a screen with a 4K resolution of 3,840 by 1,920 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9, and is rumored to include a dual rear camera setup equipped with one 19-megapixel sensor and another 12-megapixel module. All Android handsets Sony announces at its IFA 2018 conference should start retailing in the West by early fall, as indicated by the company’s previously employed product practices. The Xperia XZ3 Premium isn’t expected to make an appearance at the happening and will most likely launch in mid-2019.
