Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is seemingly gearing up to announce a new high-end smartphone called or code-named the POCOPHONE F1 which will feature an unconventional cooling system. Last week, the device received its Bluetooth certificate which also revealed some of its core specifications, including its processor and camera setup. As per the listing, the POCOPHONE F1 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC and support Bluetooth 5.0. The processor in question is mentioned as liquid-cooled, which is an unusual choice in the smartphone world but should help it maintain its peak performance level for longer periods.
Besides the processor, the Bluetooth SIG database also reveals that a dual-camera setup with a 12- and a 5-megapixel sensor will be placed on the back, with the primary sensor featuring a size of 1.4µm and dual-pixel autofocus. On the opposite side, a 20-megapixel sensor will be present with support for Super Pixel technology, which should help reduce noise in captured images. The recently launched Xiaomi Mi 8 is the first Android smartphone to include an infrared facial recognition system that was largely popularized by the Apple iPhone X. The POCOPHONE F1 will follow suit, according to the provided description, and will boast advanced facial recognition technology that will also be backed by AI. This infrared system is considered to be much more secure than traditional solutions and has an added benefit of working as effectively in pitch darkness as it does in broad daylight. Finally, the listing states that the smartphone will come running Android-based MIUI 10.
This isn’t the first time that the POCOPHONE F1 has surfaced in a leak or rumor; it has already received certifications from the FCC in the U.S. and EEC in Europe earlier this month. The FCC listing of the phone confirmed its dimensions of 76 x 151mm, albeit its thickness remains unknown. Based on some previous leaks, the high-end phone will sport either 64GB or 128GB of flash memory, with both the variants being paired with 6GB of RAM. It will also come equipped with a 5.99-inch display with an FHD+ resolution and a notch.
