YouTube Music v2.39 began rolling out about a week ago, as the revamped service became available in about 17 countries. Now, 9to5Google has decided to tear down the APK and see what kind of strings are included that might point to future updates and features. The team found a rather interesting tidbit, that points to possibly separate audio quality and video quality settings, for downloaded content.

According to the strings found in the APK, Google is going to have High, Normal and Low settings for audio playback, while video will likely stay at the usual 480p or 720p options. Having these options available for storing audio and video on your device is pretty important seeing as not every device comes with 64GB of storage, or even 32GB of storage these days. So smartphones with smaller internal storage will want to be able to adjust the quality of the audio and video it is storing on the device, so that it is able to store more on the device without using up all of its space. Download options is always an important part of any multimedia app, seeing as there are those times where you might be somewhere that doesn’t have WiFi, or you may want to conserve your mobile data so that you don’t hit your monthly limit. Which makes this option pretty important for most people.

Other than the separate audio and video quality settings here, there doesn’t seem to be much else in this APK. That’s not entirely surprising, considering the fact that this update is a huge overhaul itself. So that everything the YouTube Music team has been working on, is now available. But there is always room to improve. So it’ll be interesting to see when this new option comes to YouTube Music. It could be in the next update, or several updates from now.
