Honor’s newest smartphone is focused on gaming performance but doesn’t ignore other important aspects either, hence being a highly impressive package.
Honor came to IFA 2018 with something really exciting – the Honor Play. It’s a high-end smartphone that places a large focus on gaming. Inside, it’s packing Huawei’s latest commercially available chipset, the Kirin 970, along with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Kirin 970 sports the latest GPU from ARM, the Mali-G72 which is what makes this so great for gaming. As you’re getting some really good graphics in games like Asphalt 9: Legends and PUBG MOBILE. Plus this features Honor’s new GPU Turbo feature, which increases performance by about 60-percent, but on the other hand, it reduces energy consumption by 30-percent. And that plays into the massive battery here (3750mAh capacity), allowing you to get better gaming performance, while still allowing the phone to last quite a while on a charge.
The Honor Play is not just about its specs though, it also has a really stunning build. Now, it does look like any other Honor smartphone, as it does share the design language from recent smartphones out of Honor. But this is a metal unibody smartphone, which many are going to appreciate as it won’t shatter when you drop it. On top of that, Honor has made the Honor Play in a variety of colors, including a “Player Edition” that is available in either red or black with red highlights. Which really makes the Honor Play stand out from the crowd. And in a very crowded smartphone market, that is definitely a good thing.
With the Honor Play, the company has debuted a smartphone with relatively high-end specs, and some impressive gaming performance, for a pretty low price. Which is going to get people’s attention and for good reason. The Honor Play is launching in Europe and will be priced at €329, which is pretty incredible for what you’re getting here. With the massive battery capacity, large-screen display and impressive gaming performance. Even with the focus being on gaming, Honor also did not skimp on the camera. Honor (and its parent-company, Huawei) has really improved its cameras in recent years. With the Honor Play, there’s a dual-camera module consisting of a 16-megapixel main sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 2-megapixel lens that has a f/2.4 aperture. And of course, Honor’s AI features are inside the camera as well, providing for some really great shots without having to adjust settings. This is one of Honor’s strengths these days, which makes it great that Honor did not leave it out of the Honor Play.
AndroidHeadlines is awarding the Honor Play “Best of IFA 2018” because it’s one of the more interesting smartphones to come out of the show. Honor Play also has some really cool colors available, especially when looking at the “Player Edition” models that it is going to be selling, for the same price. In 2018, with many smartphones reaching the $1,000 price point, Honor was able to release a smartphone with relatively the same features and specs, for about a third of the price, that is definitely impressive, and will catch a lot of people’s attention.
