Photographs of the rumored prototype of the Huawei Mate 20 have been leaked on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. These pictures somewhat confirm earlier reports which state that the device will sport a rear fingerprint scanner, which is located directly below the rear cameras of the Mate 20. In comparison, a prototype of the higher-end Mate 20 Pro spotted during the IFA 2018 event in Berlin does not include a rear fingerprint scanner, and recent rumors state that the Mate 20 Pro will likely sport an in-display fingerprint sensor instead. Furthermore, a cutout for the 3.5mm headphone jack can also be seen at the top of the prototype handset.

Previous leaks already detailed the design and specifications of the Mate 20. A render that was based on the engineering samples of the Mate 20 shows that Huawei’s upcoming smartphone will sport a distinct square pattern at the back that contains the triple rear camera setup and the dual LED flash. Also leaked recently is the image of the front panel of the Mate 20, which shows that the device will have a thin bottom bezel and a water-drop notch above the display, The notch contains a cutout for the single front-facing camera and a much thinner hole for the earpiece is located at the top of the front panel.

Recent reports state that the Kirin 980 chipset will power the Huawei Mate 20. The Kirin 980 SoC is the first chipset fabricated using the 7nm process node technology, and Huawei claims that the Kirin 980 can offer either 40-percent improvement in power efficiency or 20-percent increased processing power compared to the Kirin 970 SoC. Furthermore, rumors claim that the Mate 20 will sport a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2,244 by 1,080 pixels as well as dual stereo speakers. Recent leaks further state that the Mate 20 may support fast wireless charging, and that the device will be made out of metal and glass. The device will reportedly ship with Android 9 Pie pre-installed, although Huawei’s proprietary skin, EMUI 9, will likely run on top of Google’s operating system. Previous reports state that Huawei will unveil the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro on October 16, while the device maker already launched the Mate 20 Lite in early September.
