Pocophone’s Head of Product, Jai Mani, revealed in a tweet that the Poco F1 will be receiving an official firmware update to Android Q in the future, and that update should be out in H2 2019. His tweet was in response to a user query regarding the number of major Android updates the handset is eligible for. Mani replied that the company will provide “at least P and Q” updates, hinting at the possibility of a major firmware update beyond Android Q, though, that cannot be confirmed just yet.

As previously mentioned, the flagship smartphone ships with Android Oreo out of the box and is expected to receive the Android Pie update before this year ends. The Poco F1 came preinstalled with Poco Launcher, a slightly tweaked version of Xiaomi’s MIUI Android skin. Soon after its introduction in August, the smartphone was reported to be missing certain digital rights management (DRM) certifications required to play HD content from video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The Chinese OEM has confirmed to soon release a fix, which will likely come with the Android Pie update, along with the support for 4K video recording at 60fps. Many Poco F1 users have reported several more issues related to certain games and Google Assistant wake words, which should also be fixed with the upcoming software release.

The China-based brand took the smartphone industry by storm when it announced the Pocophone F1 equipped with the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor at a starting price of under $300. It features a 6.18-inch notched IPS LCD full HD+ display that is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. On the inside, the premium chipset is accompanied by up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable memory depending on the variant. It has a dual-camera setup on the back and includes a 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 using the included charger. The handset arrived in the U.S. earlier this month via B&H Photo at a slightly inflated starting price of $369 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.
