Motorola One Power running the latest Android version – Android 9 Pie – was recently benchmarked by Geekbench, indicating a possible firmware release in the coming weeks. The mid-range Android One smartphone was introduced with Android 8.1 Oreo and a promise to provide a timely delivery of future software upgrades. Notably, the new Geekbench listing has Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor mentioned, while the retail model ships with a slightly lower-end Snapdragon 636 chipset. It is still not clear whether the Lenovo-owned brand is actually planning to announce an improved variant of its Motorola One Power device or if the spotted listing is erroneous.

The mid-range smartphone from Motorola scored 1,274 and 4,508 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. These numbers are just marginally lower than what the retail version of Motorola One Power running the stable Android Oreo firmware usually scores, which is unsurprising since the test unit is pre-loaded with an unreleased, and likely unoptimized, Android version. The listing also suggests the same 4GB of RAM and 1.6GHz clock speed of its octa-core processor as the currently available model offers. The Snapdragon 660 SoC, on the other hand, not only offers a higher base frequency but also attains a much higher score in the two Geekbench tests. Motorola has yet to provide any official statement in this regard, while the Android Pie update is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.

Last August, Motorola announced a pair of Android One devices – Motorola One and Motorola One Power – with the latter being the more premium offering. The Motorola One Power comes with a larger 6.2-inch FHD+ notched LCD panel, features a more powerful Snapdragon 636 processor, and has a significantly higher-capacity 5,000mAh battery with support for Motorola’s TurboPower fast-charging solution. Despite sporting one of the most capable batteries in any mainstream phone, the Motorola-branded device manages to keep its weight at 170 grams with a thickness of 9.98mm. It has 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of expandable storage and includes a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a USB Type-C port. A 16- and 5-megapixel cameras are placed on the phone’s back, while a single 12-megapixel sensor sits on the opposite side.
