The Thunder Purple variant of the OnePlus 6T will not be launching in the US, or Europe, for that matter. This information comes directly from OnePlus, Phone Arena reports. The Thunder Purple of the company’s flagship was announced a couple of days ago in China, along with the Mirror Black and Midnight Black models, and some users were hoping that OnePlus will ship out this variant to international markets as well, but that will not be the case. OnePlus basically confirmed that the phone will remain exclusive to China, that is the only market that the device will be available in, so not only will it not reach the US or Europe, but it will not become available in India either. The company did say that this is their current decision, and even though it did not say that it may reconsider, anything is possible.
Background: The OnePlus 6T got announced last week in New York, and the company introduced two variants of the device, Mirror Black and Midnight Black iterations, which offer the same finishes as the Mirror Black and Midnight Black OnePlus 6 units. In any case, the Thunder Purple model arrived a couple of days ago, and it’s a complete opposite of the two variants that reached international markets, as it combines purple and black colors in order to create a more lively design, it’s far more noticeable than any of the other two variants. The Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T is made out of the same materials as the other two models, though, which means that its back cover is made out of glass, and it basically looks like a purple Midnight Black model, as its back cover is not glossy like the Mirror Black unit, but it has that matte finish like the Midnight Black model. The letter ‘S’ is visible under the right light, as is the case with the Midnight Black variant of the device. 20-percent (approximately) of the device’s back side is black-colored, while the rest is purple-colored, same goes for its frame, actually.
The OnePlus 6T is actually quite similar to its sibling, the OnePlus 6, as the build is similar, but the two phones do look kind of different. The OnePlus 6T sports the teardrop notch on the front, unlike the OnePlus 6’s regular notch, so the OnePlus 6T is more appealing when it comes to looks, though that’s a matter of taste. The OnePlus 6T also does not have a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back, instead, it packs in an in-display unit, for better or worse. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also not a part of the OnePlus 6T, while the same can be said for an LED notification light, both of which are available on the OnePlus 6. The two devices do share plenty of internals, though, as they have the same cameras, processor, RAM setup, display (though the sizes are different), and so on.
The OnePlus 6T features a 6.41-inch fullHD+ Optic AMOLED unit, while the phone is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants, with 128GB or 256GB of storage, respectively. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while a 3,700mAh lies on the inside of the device, and it is not removable. OnePlus’ proprietary fast charging is still here, even though it’s no longer called ‘Dash Charge’ for legal reasons, and the phone does include Bluetooth 5.0 on the inside. 16 and 20-megapixel cameras are included on the back of the OnePlus 6T, while a single 16-megapixel camera can be found on the phone’s front side. Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the device, along with OnePlus’ OxygenOS. Speaking of software, OnePlus actually made some changes to its navigation gestures, not only by adding some new features, but also by making them more fluid. On top of that, the company worked on the phone’s cameras quite a bit, on the software side, as it improved the auto mode quite a bit, while it also added the ‘Nightscape’ mode for low light photography. All of those software features are already available on the OnePlus 6, in case you are wondering, as they are included in the OxygenOS 9.0.2 update for the phone.
Impact: So, there you have it, the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple variant will not leave China, at least that’s not in OnePlus’ plans at the moment. The company did not mention any other color option for the device, but it will almost certainly release at least one more color option in the coming weeks / months. The OnePlus 6 originally launched in Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White options, giving its users some options, while the red-colored model also became available later on. So, there’s a good chance that OnePlus is either planning to release a red-colored OnePlus 6T at some point in the future, or some other color options, at least if the company’s past announcements are anything to go by. On top of that, we’ll probably see some special edition OnePlus 6T variants out there, as the company did the same with both OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 6 models, we’ve seen a Star Wars OnePlus 5T, and Marvel Avengers OnePlus 6 special editions of those two devices, so the company will probably do something similar with the OnePlus 6T, but nothing is known just yet. The OnePlus 6T is currently available all around the world, and for the first time ever, the company has partnered up with one of the US carriers in order to sell the device, T-Mobile. That partnership will almost certainly help OnePlus become even more popular in the States, and it remains to be seen how will it affect the OnePlus 6T sales in the country, and in general. One thing is for sure, offering more color options for the OnePlus 6T will definitely help OnePlus sell more devices, as not everyone likes black-colored phones, even though there are two black colors to choose from, but still, quite a few people prefer some spark when it comes to colors, and OnePlus is hopefully aware of that by now.
