OnePlus yesterday teased the arrival of the Thunder Purple color option for its newest flagship, the OnePlus 6T, to many more markets outside its homeland China, including the U.S. It was just last week that the company said it won’t be bringing this color to any other market for the time being but that decision now appears to have been reversed, with an official tweet below saying as much. The same message was posted by OnePlus’s regional Twitter accounts for the US, UK, and India.

Last week, the Chinese OEM announced the Thunder Purple variant of the OnePlus 6T Android flagship. Unlike the other two existing finishes – Midnight Black and Mirror Black – the Thunder Purple variant exhibits a color gradient, with shades of black and purple merging together from top and bottom. This gradient has also been extended to the phone’s metal frame which follows the same pattern as the back. The new color variant was announced in China with only one configuration option – 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. OnePlus has followed a similar approach with its past launches of limited-edition colors and is expected to continue doing so when the Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T releases in more countries.

Apart from its new gradient hue, the Thunder Purple model shares all of the internals with the previously announced premium variant of the OnePlus 6T. It features the same high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor along with a 6.39-inch FHD+ Optic AMOLED display that now comes with a smaller notch and a reduced bottom bezel. One of the major changes for this ‘T’ upgrade is the inclusion of an under-display fingerprint scanner that replaced the rear-facing one of its predecessor. OnePlus, in a controversial move, removed the 3.5mm headphone jack from its latest flagship while increasing its battery capacity to 3,700mAh. The handset has borrowed its camera modules from the OnePlus 6 but has received a bunch of new software-based improvements that claim to improve the overall image quality. The OnePlus 6T is also the first smartphone from the Chinese company to be sold through a carrier in the U.S. as it has already been picked up by T-Mobile. The carrier is currently only retailing the mid-range variant of the device with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $579.99, while the other two configurations can be purchased from OnePlus directly.
