Android 9 Pie has finally started rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ for Verizon Wireless variants of those two devices. The Galaxy S9 is getting the update with a build number “G960USQU3CSAB”, while the update will be installed on the Galaxy S9+ with a build number “G965USQU3CSAB”.
Update to both of those devices is currently rolling out over-the-air (OTA), and you can check for it manually, even though your phone will let you know when it’s available (presuming you haven’t disabled that option). You can manually check for an update by heading to Settings and then “System Update” on your phone.
Along with this update, you will be getting the Android security patch for January 2019, and Verizon Wireless has updated its official website with the official changelog for this update. You will find one changelog for both devices as both are basically getting the same software, but the build numbers are different, of course.
What Are You Getting With This Update?
First and foremost, it is worth noting that the Android 9 Pie for both of those devices will remove Samsung’s Experience UI from the Galaxy S9(+), and it will, instead, push out Samsung’s brand new One UI to your device. One UI is Samsung’s new Android overlay which is made with one hand usage in mind, as it rearranges UI elements (at least in Samsung’s apps and UI itself) so that you can access them easily with one hand.
Having said that, you will also get Samsung’s navigation gestures, you can still use on-screen buttons if you want, but changing to navigation gestures is a breeze, you can switch from the phone’s Settings. Now, as far as Android 9 Pie additions are concerned, you will get “Adaptive Battery”, which should additionally optimize battery consumption on both the Galaxy S9 and S9+, by learning how you use your phone.
Adaptive Brightness is yet another feature that you will be getting with Android 9 Pie, as the phone will learn how you like your brightness to be under specific lighting conditions, and it will automatically adjust it. App Actions predicts what you’re about to do, and it helps you to get to your next task quickly. So, for example, if you connect your headphones, it may offer you to listen to the playlist you were listening before.
Now, as part of the One UI’s arrival, Samsung had changed a number of its design elements, so the UI will look quite a bit different to what you’re used to. The camera application has been changed as well, as camera modes are now placed right above the shutter button for quick access.
