It seems like Sony has started sending out invites for its press conference at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, which will take place in Barcelona next month. According to the info / screenshots provided by the Xperia Blog, the company’s press conference will take place on Monday, February 25, at 8:30 CET.
The source shared screenshots of two Sony MWC 2019 invitations, one from Russia, and one from Italy, which means that other countries should receive such invites soon, and Sony is also expected to publish this info via its global site and its social media accounts.
Sony did not confirm any launches via its MWC 2019 invitation, but we do know that the company will live stream its press conference on its official website, a link will be available here, that’s for sure.
As far as expected launches are concerned, the company will probably announce its brand new flagship during the event, the Xperia XZ4. The Sony Xperia XZ4 has been leaking for quite some time now, and until a couple of days ago, we’d assume that the company plans to announce both the Xperia XZ4 and Xperia XZ4 Compact, but it seems like that will not be the case.
One of Sony Mobile’s executives hinted that the Xperia XZ4 Compact may not arrive during the MWC 2019, or at all, by saying that consumers are more interested in larger displays these days, even though sticking to the Compact lineup made sense thus far due to a smaller form factor. Truth be said, it seems like there are quite a few people out there that are still interested in smaller phones, so this may not be the best decision on Sony’s part, but we’ll see what will happen, even though the likelihood of the Xperia XZ4 Compact’s arrival is… well, the phone probably will not launch at MWC 2019.
The Sony Xperia XZ4 leaked a number of times thus far, and even though we’ve seen some conflicting info, the phone’s final design and some of its specs are not that easy to figure out. The phone will be made out of metal and glass, just like its predecessor, and it will sport thinner bezels than the Xperia XZ3. The phone will not include a display notch or a display hole, and it’s expected to be quite tall, as it’s rumored to sport a 21:9 display aspect ratio.
The Xperia XZ4 is said to sport three cameras on the back, while a 6.55-inch OLED display is rumored as well. We do not know how realistic / smart it is to expect such a large display considering that the Xperia XZ3 included a 6-inch panel, and considering that the phone will probably sport a 21:9 display aspect ratio, but there you have it. If it ends up sporting such a large display with such a tall display aspect ratio, the need for the “Compact” variant will be even greater.
The Xperia XZ4 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm, and the phone’s battery will probably be around 4,000mAh in capacity. Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the device, and an in-display fingerprint scanner will probably be a part of the package as well.
