The User Agent Profiles (UAProf) of the Sony Xperia XA3, the Xperia XA3 Plus, and the Xperia L3 provided more details about the screen resolutions and operating system versions of the three upcoming smartphone offerings from the Japanese tech firm. According to the data, the Xperia XA3 and the Xperia XA3 Ultra will both feature displays with a screen resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9. Furthermore, the data suggest that the handsets will not ship with the latest version of Google’s operating system, Android 9 Pie, but instead, Sony will sell the two smartphones with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed. On the other hand, the User Agent Profile for the Xperia L3 suggests that the handset will have a display with a screen resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The data also shows that the handset will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed. Despite the differences in the version of the Android operating system, users should also expect that Sony’s proprietary skin will run on top of the Android operating system for all three devices.

Background: Multiple leaks and benchmark results already supplied details about the design and specifications of the three upcoming handsets from Sony. Sony will likely market the Xperia XA3 and the Xperia XA3 Ultra as mid-range devices. A Geekbench result from last August suggests that the Xperia XA3 will sport the Snapdragon 660 chipset. This SoC includes an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU running at a maximum clock speed of 2.21GHz and the Adreno 512 GPU. The leaked benchmark result also suggests that the device will feature Android 8.0 Oreo, and several months after the leak, it seems that Sony did not update the operating system included with the device.

Interestingly, the data obtained from the User Agent Profile contradicts with an earlier leak, which suggests that the Xperia XA3 and the Xperia XA3 will feature a display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Recent renders of the smartphones show that the devices will include side-mounted fingerprint sensors, instead of the rear-mounted scanners found in some of the company’s recently-launched products. Located at the top of the handset is the 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, while the bottom of the smartphone contains the USB Type-C port. Both devices feature a single front-facing camera and a horizontally-arranged dual rear shooter setup. Recent reports claim that the Xperia XA3 will sport a 5.9-inch screen, while the Xperia XA3 Ultra will feature a 6.5-inch panel.

On the other hand, the Xperia L3, the upcoming entry-level smartphone offering of Sony, features a 5.7-inch display. The handset also features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a dual rear camera setup placed at the upper left-hand corner of the smartphone. Little is known about the internal specifications of the Xperia L3, although the handset’s predecessor, the Xperia L2, sported a quad-core chipset from MediaTek, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal flash storage.

Impact: The inclusion of an older version of the Android operating system is interesting, given that Google released its latest software last August. If Sony does not update its devices to the most recent version of the operating system, users of the three devices will not be able to take advantage of the latest features along with security improvements incorporated into Android Pie. Nonetheless, more information about the device will become available as the launch of the device comes closer.
