Sony Xperia Beyond Concept Includes Two Under-Display Cameras

We have seen quite a few “Designed by Hege” concept smartphones in the past, and a new one has just appeared. The source actually envisioned a new phone by Sony this time around, the Sony Xperia Beyond.

Designed by Hege usually thinks outside of the box when it comes to concept designs, and unlike most other designers, it tends to envision a whole new phone, not that we know is coming in the near future. By doing so, the designer has much more freedom in terms of the design, or so it seems based on the designs we’ve seen thus far.

The Sony Xperia Beyond is not as flashy as some other designs the source released in the past, but it sure is nice-looking, and if real, it would probably be quite popular. As you can see, the phone’s bezels are almost non-existent, and it does not have display holes or notches, which results in a really clean-looking design from the front.

Some of you may wonder where is this phone’s front-facing camera… well, the designer actually envisioned two selfie cameras, but both of them are placed below the display, which is a technology that is still not available to the general public. This phone also includes an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The phone’s volume up, volume down, and power / lock buttons are all located on the right, while the device sports a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom. There are three cameras included on the back of this phone, and those three cameras are vertically-aligned, and included in the top-left portion of the phone’s back.

Sony’s logo also sits on the back of this device, along with a dual-tone flash, and what seems to be a laser autofocus This phone’s back has rounded sides and corners, but for the most part, it’s completely flat, and its triple cameras do protrude a bit.

Once again, this is just an imaginary smartphone, created by the designer. It does look quite compelling, but it will never become a reality, at least not this identical design. That being said, the under-display camera setup is quite interesting, and it may start hitting smartphones sooner than expected.

A well-known tipster actually said the other day that we will see the very first smartphone with an under-display camera by the end of this year. The information came from Ben Geskin, and he said that OPPO will be the company to deliver that smartphone.

Many reports suggested that under-display cameras are nowhere near being ready for primetime, as pictures provided by such cameras are far from where they need to be. Well, if Mr. Geskin is to be believed, it seems like OPPO figured things out, and will push a phone with such a setup before the end of this year.

Under-display cameras would definitely be another huge step for the industry, as such tech would allow OEMs to stop utilizing display holes and notches, and the same goes for pop-up cameras and sliding camera phones. If this rumor ends up being true, it will definitely be interesting to see what will OPPO have to show us, as many people are questioning the quality of such a camera setup at this point in time. It wouldn’t be the first time that OPPO managed to surprise us all, though.
