Sony announced earlier this week that the Xperia 1 would be launching pre-orders on June 28. That day is here. And now is the time to pre-order your Xperia 1. Especially if you’re looking to get a pair of the Sony WH-1000X M3 wireless headphones for free. These headphones are normally priced at $349, making it one hell of a freebie for pre-orderers.

The Xperia 1 pre-orders start today, and it will ship on July 12.

Sony announced the Xperia 1 back at Mobile World Congress in February. That was over four months ago, and many people have likely forgotten about this phone. So let’s refresh your memory about the Xperia 1.

The Xperia 1 is the premium flagship from Sony. It sports a 6.5-inch 4K OLED HDR display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Sony has been going all-in with the 21:9 aspect ratio – which it calls “CinemaWide”- as it believes that it is where the industry is headed. This is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is also a micro SD card slot available for expanding storage. Finally, this is powered by a 3300mAh capacity battery, which is indeed pretty small for such a large, 4K display.

Sony has really been talking up the camera on the Xperia 1 as well. It sports a triple camera setup, with three 12-megapixel sensors. There’s an ultra-wide angle, a wide angle and a telephoto sensor on the backside. But the reason why Sony is talking it up, is because it has brought over the Alpha team (the team responsible for its industry-best mirrorless cameras) for its smartphone cameras. Which means that they should vastly improve. With focus time, low-light shots and much more. This is also being targeted as one of the best smartphones for shooting video, though we’ll have to wait and see how well that turns out.

Sony’s smartphones have never been cheap, so it’s no surprise to see the Xperia 1 coming in at $949. It is slightly cheaper than other flagships out there, but it’s still pretty pricey. That’s what makes the freebie of the Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones such a good deal. These are incredible headphones – some might say the best on the market right now – and they also cost $350, Which does really bring down the price of the Xperia 1, for those looking to grab one.

The Xperia 1 isn’t going to be the most popular smartphone in 2019, but those looking for something that’s going to offer a different camera experience and a pretty impressive media experience. Mostly thanks to that display being OLED and HDR, not to mention 4K. Though users are going to have to get used to a 21:9 aspect ratio display on their smartphone, which Android doesn’t adapt to, too well just yet. That should change in the very near future though as more phones start to embrace the CinemaWide aspect ratio.

You can pre-order the Sony Xperia 1 from Amazon using the link below. It’s priced at $949 and should be shipping by July 12, as long as there are no other delays with the phone.
