Visible, the low-cost phone service has now announced it is lifting the data cap it previously had in place.

This is a limited-time move as the service says it wants to test the new unlimited feature out and because this is part of a wider set of new features that are coming to the service in the future – although Visible chose not to elaborate on that point any further.

While this is not being advertised as a permanent change to the service, Visible has yet to specify how long it will be on offer for. The announcement simply states “starting today, and for a limited time.”

To coincide with the lifting of the data cap, Visible has also confirmed that it is now opening up sales for those looking to pick up the latest smartphone from Google, the Google Pixel 3a.

Visible launched back in early 2018 as a new option for those looking for a way to pay less for their monthly bills while avoiding having to sign up to a long-term commitment. The service runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE network and although the price is designed to be lower, one of the caveats was the 5Mbps data cap that was in effect for all users.

This is now what’s changing with the service stating the data cap has been lifted as of today. What’s more, this applies to both new and existing customers equally so those considering switching to Visible will be able to take advantage of the unlimited data speeds immediately.

Visible says the data cap removal wont cost existing or new customers any more and those who are already signed up to the service do not have to opt-in to ensure they are benefiting from the change.

In fact, Visible says the only thing users need to do is to restart their phone at the earliest opportunity. The restart will initiate the change and immediately provide access to the new feature.

For those new to Visible, this is a service that offers “unlimited everything” (messages, minutes, and data) on Verizon’s 4G LTE network for just $40 per month. That’s $40 all-in with no contracts or hidden fees. Of course, going forward that also now includes unlimited data speeds as well.

One of the ways in which the service has managed to keep costs low and offer unlimited everything is through the removal of many of the costly hurdles that are often in place for new services like this.

For example, Visible is a digital-based service so in addition to the lack of contracts and additional fees, there’s also no physical stores. Put simply, this is a service you sign up to and manage completely through its online ecosystem made up of the website and the corresponding mobile apps.

Although Visible appears and operates like it is a fresh startup, that’s not quite the case as the service not only runs on Verizon’s network, but is actually a service that’s owned by Verizon – aimed specifically at the low-cost prepaid market. However, both services seem keen to distance themselves from one another and in spite of the ownership, Visible is said to operate independently of Verizon.
