If you already subscribe to YouTube TV then there’s a chance you might be able to pick up a Nest Hub for just $49.

It remains to be seen how widespread this offer is, but a reddit post has now emerged showing YouTube TV has started sending out emails to subscribers offering them the discount.

For reference, the Nest Hub typically retails for $129 in the U.S.

According to the email, there’s no real caveats in play here other than the purchase needs to be made before July 24 and that only one Nest Hub can be ordered per family. The email does not specify this but the emails do seem to only be going out to the manager of a YouTube TV family account and also state “as a YouTube TV Family Manager, you can purchase a Google Nest Hub for only $49.”

Due to these being targeted emails there’s not much anyone who doesn’t subscribe to YouTube TV can do to get in on the action. Emails are sent with personalized redeem codes so unless you receive the email, or know someone who has, you won’t be able to take advantage of the deal.

It also remains to be seen if single-member YouTube TV subscribers are being offered the same deal.

Family accounts are one of the major benefits of YouTube TV over other live TV streaming services as they allow one account to be shared with up to six people (including the original member). This is not simply just a matter of different people being able to watch on different screens at the same time, but a completely individual experience equipped with personal recommendations and their own cloud-based DVR.

The Nest Hub is actually the Google Home Hub. It was recently rebranded as part of the wider folding of the Home line into the Nest line. Besides the name-change, the Nest Hub and the Home Hub are exactly the same product.

For those unfamiliar with the Nest/Home Hub, this is Google’s own take on what a smart display should look like. It is in keeping with the Made by Google design ethos and can be purchased in a variety of colors.

With this being a smart display, it is ideal for use in select rooms, such as the kitchen. Users can rely on the Google Assistant to help find information, see recipes, and even watch videos from a variety of sources – either by using the Google Assistant or by casting the content from a smartphone.

One point worth noting about the casting and video playback is that not all video services currently support Google’s line of smart displays so it should not be assumed you can cast as much content to a smart display as you can with a TV or another device.

Needless to say, as it is YouTube TV who is running the promotion, YouTube TV is one that fully supports the Google Assistant smart display platform. Making the Nest Hub (or any other Google Assistant-related smart display for that matter) an ideal option for anyone looking to place (or replace) a screen in the kitchen and tune in to YouTube TV.
