Amazon took a moment to launch the Echo Show 8 today.
This is the company’s latest smart display and one that fits nicely within the company’s current smart display portfolio.
The Echo Show 8 goes on sale soon and priced at $129.99 in the U.S.
Echo Show 8 is Amazon’s goldilocks smart display
Amazon already has a standard Echo Show with a 10.1-inch display. More recently, it also unveiled the newer Echo Show 5 with a 5-inch display. If the former is too big and the latter too small, the Echo Show 8 might be just right.
Featuring an 8-inch HD display, the Echo Show 8 bridges the gap between display real estate and overall size. In addition to the screen, the new Echo Show 8 also features speakers that Amazon says offers “crisp and powerful sound.”
The Echo Show 8 does also come loaded with a camera, and Amazon was quick to point out there’s a camera shutter included as well. Therefore, those concerned about privacy can disable the camera’s ability to see with the flick of a switch.
Amazon has confirmed the new Echo Show 8 will go on sale in the U.S. on November 21, 2019. In the meantime, the Echo Show 8 is now available to pre-order from Amazon.
Amazon continues to expand smart home device lineup
The Echo Show 8 is just one of the devices announced by Amazon today with Alexa and the smart home in mind. What’s more, all of the devices announced today are also just a part of the number of devices Amazon now offers for the home.
Over the last couple of years, there’s been a race to increase the number of voice assistant users and it’s become clear Amazon sees value in variety. With three smart displays now on offer that vary in size, the company is offering a smart display solution to suit everyone. That’s without even taking into consideration the smaller Echo Spot the company announced earlier in the year.
Like the others, the Echo Spot is also a smart display. Unlike the others, the Echo Spot is more designed for your bedroom than your kitchen.
Speaking of which, along with the new Echo Show 8, the company also announced some new smart display features. One of them was a “new integration with Food Network.” This integration not only allows users to watch Food Network videos, but also command Alexa to save the recipe.
In addition, Food Network subscribers have the added option of taking part in “live and on demand cooking classes.”
