Battlewake is now available on PC VR and PSVR with an Oculus Quest release happening, hopefully, in the coming months. You can find Battlewake on your favorite content stores for $29.99 with a special launch discount (15% through most channels). Battlewake is now available for Oculus Rift and Oculus Rift S on the Oculus Store, HTC Vive or the Valve Index on Steam, and PlayStation VR for PS4 on the Playstation Store.

Battlewake is the latest VR game from Survios, the studio behind a significant number of big-name VR games like Westworld: Awakening, Creed: Rise to Glory, Raw Data, and even the upcoming The Walking Dead Onslaught.

If you’re not familiar with Battlewake then it’s time to get acquainted with Survios latest must-play VR title. In Battlewake you’ll play as the captain of a mystical pirate ship in a quest to overthrow the Queen who has taken your lands, freedom, riches, and power. Players can choose between four Pirate Lords to play as (Calavera, Diego, Rev, and Zhang), joining each other in a 20-chapter story that can be played entirely on your own or co-op with up to 3 other players.

Players can channel ancient magics for special and ultimate attacks throughout their time on the seas, including mighty tsunamis, stormy maelstroms, or even getting a chance to release the Kraken.

We were able to take place in the beta test last month and play with quite a few other players, having a blast the entire weekend the beta was available. Developer Survios has created an incredible system of mechanics that make the player feel as if they were right behind the ship’s wheel, steering their mighty vessel across roaring seas that come to life like never before in VR.

One of Survios biggest achievements is its anti-sickness system that relieves motion sickness from those who typically suffer from it in VR. Battlewake is Survios first vehicular combat VR game and utilizes a proprietary technology called the Immersive Vehicle System. Using Adaptive Physics and Peripheral Effects subsystems, players can focus on the battle at hand and take on the wildest waves, while limiting the common triggers of sea-sickness.

That’s good, too, since the waves in the sea of Battlewake respond realistically to attacks and the movements of ships, tossing boats about when the mighty Kraken awakens from its slumber, or just sloshing about as cannon fire litters the bows of your vessel.

The feeling of immersion here is impressive, and the controls even more so. Firing cannons is as simple as pointing your hands a direction and clicking a button. Steering the ship with the wheel feels natural, and casting those epic spells makes you feel like a magical Pirate Lord.

Ships can, of course, be upgraded over time and those upgrades can be taken over to the PvP mode where you can challenge your greatest friends and foes alike in online multiplayer battles. The end of each battle takes you back to your Captains Quarters where you can spend gold earned in each mission. 13 weapons in total can be earned and upgraded, including flak cannons, ballistae, axe-throwers, chain cannons, and plenty more.

Oculus Quest owners should stay tuned as Survios is planning to deliver more info on the Quest release soon.
