Huawei had introduced its new flagship smartphones in Berlin today, the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. The special edition Mate 30 RS Porsche Design phone also got announced, but that phone differs from the Pro model only in terms of the design. It’s time to take a closer look at the spec sheet of the company’s flagships, starting with the Huawei Mate 30 specifications. We’ll check out the Mate 30 Pro in a separate article.
The Mate 30 is inferior to the Mate 30 Pro
Before we get down to the Huawei Mate 30 specifications, it’s worth saying that this phone differs from the Pro model in the design department. The Huawei Mate 30 includes a taller, and narrower display notch.
It also includes physical volume up and down keys, which is not the case with the Mate 30 Pro. The Mate 30 is also a bit more rounded than the Mate 30 Pro.
The Huawei Mate 30 does differ from the Pro model in terms of specs, to a degree. The phone sports a different camera setup, different display, and there are some other differences. We’ll talk more about that in a different piece. Let’s talk about the Mate 30 specs.
The Huawei Mate 30 specifications are nothing to scoff at
The Huawei Mate 30 features a 6.62-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) FullView AMOLED display. This is a flat display that we’re looking at, not a curved one as on the Mate 30 Pro.
The phone is fueled by the Kirin 990 64-bit octa-core processor, Huawei’s latest flagship processor. This chip got announced at IFA in Berlin earlier this month, and it supports 5G.
The Huawei Mate 30 comes in two variants, 6GB and 8GB RAM ones. Both of those models pack in 128GB of storage, in case you were wondering.
A 4,200mAh battery is included in the package here, and is non-removable, of course. The phone supports 40W fast wired charging, and 27W fast wireless charging.
Android 10 comes pre-installed on this smartphone, along with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 10 skin. The device does include an in-display fingerprint scanner, an optical one.
The Huawei Mate 30 is IP53 certified for water and dust resistance, while it weighs 196 grams. The phone measures 160.8 x 76.1 x 8.4mm.
The device includes 40-megapixel (wide-angle lens, f/1.6 aperture, OIS), 16-megapixel (super wide-angle lens, f/2.2 aperture), and 8-megapixel (f/2.4 aperture, OIS, telephoto lens) cameras on the back. 3x optical zoom is possible here, 5x hybrid zoom, and 30x digital zoom.
A single 24-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) sits on the phone’s front side. The Huawei Mate 30 does include a 3.5mm headphone jack, by the way.
Four Huawei Mate 30 colors, plus two for “Vegan Leather” edition of the device
Huawei announced this phone in four color variants, Classic Black, Space Silver, Cosmic Purple, and Emerland Green colors. The Mate 30 is made out of metal and glass, but Huawei also introduced a special edition version of the phone. This version is called the “Vegan Leather” edition.
That variant of the Mate 30 comes with a leather back, not glass. It comes in two color variants, which are different to the glass ones. Those colors are called “Vegan Leather Orange” and “Vegan Leather Forest Green”.
