Featured image for Phone Comparisons: Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10

The time has come to pit the Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10. These two phones are both considered to be flagship smartphones. That being said, they’re not exactly the most powerful phones from Huawei and Samsung, respectively.

The Huawei P30 Pro is a step above the regular model, the same goes for the Galaxy Note 10+. Having that in mind, the Huawei P30 and Galaxy Note 10 are nothing to scoff at. These two phones are extremely powerful, and if you’re into smaller devices, these are the ones you should pay attention to.

The Huawei P30 and Galaxy Note 10 are considerably different in comparison, though. They do have some things in coming, but they’re not that similar in general. If you’ve been thinking about getting either of the two phones, you’re in the right place, as it’s time to compare the Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

Specifications

Design

Both of these phones are made out of metal and glass. They do not feel all that similar in the hand, though. The Huawei P30 is much more round on the back, while its edges are not squared off. The Huawei P30 is easier to hold because of it, as the Galaxy Note 10 has sharp corners.

Both phones are quite slippery, though. That is not surprising considering they’re made out of metal and glass. These two devices are quite similar in general dimensions and even weight. The Galaxy Note 10 is ever so slightly taller, wider, and thicker, while it’s also 3 grams heavier than the Huawei P30.

The Huawei P30 comes with a dewdrop display notch, while the Galaxy Note 10 opted for a display camera hole. Both phones include a thin “chin” below the display. You will notice three cameras on the back of both phones, and they’re even placed in the same position.

A fingerprint scanner is not visible on either of the two phones, as it’s located below the display in booth cases. In our eyes, these two phones are on the same level in terms of the design. It all depends on what your preferences are.

Display

The Huawei P30 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10 both include fullHD+ displays. Those two displays are not identical, though. The Huawei P30 comes with a 6.1-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) OLED display. The Galaxy Note 10, on the other hand, features a 6.3-inch fullHD+ (2280 x 1080) Dynamic AMOLED panel.

The Galaxy Note 10’s display is protected by the Gorilla Glass 6. Corning’s Gorilla Glass is placed on top of the Huawei P30’s display as well, but we don’t know what variant exactly. Huawei used either the Gorilla Glass 5 or 6.

Both of these displays are flat, and both support HDR10. The Huawei P30’s panel supports regular HDR10, though, while the Galaxy Note 10 offers support for HDR10+. Both displays are great, but the Galaxy Note 10’s does have an edge here. It is visible when you place them side-by-side. Both offer great viewing angles, great contrast, and so on.

Performance

These two phones are flagship-grade offerings, and they do offer great performance. The Huawei P30 comes with the company’s Kirin 980 SoC, while the Galaxy Note 10 is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 (in the US). The Exynos 9825 Galaxy Note 10 model is being sold in Europe and India.

In addition to that, both devices pack in plenty of RAM. The Huawei P30 is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants, while the Galaxy Note 10 packs in 8GB of RAM. That, in combination with Android 9 Pie that comes pre-installed on both phones, makes these two phones run rather smooth.

The Huawei P30’s and Galaxy Note 10’s Android skins are quite different, though. The Huawei P30 includes Huawei’s EMUI (Emotion UI) skin, while the Galaxy Note 10 features One UI. Neither of them are the very best Android skins, in our opinion, but both do a really good job. Both skins have come a long way, and chances are that some of you actually prefer them.

The two devices are on the same playing field in terms of performance, despite the fact the Galaxy Note 10 offers UFS 3.0 flash storage. The difference in sheer day-to-day performance is not noticeable at all. Both devices will have an occasional stutter, but that’s basically it.

Battery life

The Huawei P30 comes with a 3,650mAh battery, while the Galaxy Note 10 includes a 3,500mAh unit. The Huawei P30 actually managed to offer more in the battery endurance department in our experience. The Galaxy Note 10 is not bad in that regard, but it’s average at best.

The Huawei P30 should be a phone you consider if you’re looking for a smaller device with really good battery life. That battery size is large enough for the phone’s 6.1-inch fullHD+ display. Huawei’s Emotion UI also comes with a number of battery tweaks that can help you get even more from that battery pack.

The Galaxy Note 10 does offer slightly faster wired charging than the Huawei P30. It comes with 25W charging, while the Huawei P30 offers 22.5W charging. The Galaxy Note 10 also includes wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. The Huawei P30 is the winner of this comparison, though, due to its battery endurance.

Winner: Huawei P30

Cameras

Both of these devices come with three cameras on the back, and one unit on the front. The Huawei P30 includes 40, 8, and 16-megapixel cameras on its back. The Galaxy Note 10, on the other hand, features 16 and two 12-megapixel cameras.

Both phones are quite capable in the camera department, to say the least. The Huawei P30 is almost on the same level as the Huawei P30 Pro, one of the best camera phones out there. It does not have all the crazy periscope zoom capability, but it does have some of it. The rest of it is pretty much the same.

The Galaxy Note 10 is almost the same as the Galaxy Note 10+ in the camera department. It lacks that depth sensor, but the results are almost identical to the “+” model. The Huawei P30 does a bit better in low light, and in telephoto shots, while the Galaxy Note 10 provides slightly better dynamic range and general daylight shots. All in all, they’re quite similar in terms of camera quality.

Audio

So, what about audio? Well, you’ll be glad to know that they’re both quite compelling in that regard. Both devices can reproduce 32-bit/384kHz audio, all you need is a good pair of headphones.

The Galaxy Note 10 does sound a bit more balanced via headphones though, but the Huawei P30 is no slouch either. The Galaxy Note 10 also comes with a stereo speaker setup, which is not the case with the Huawei P30. The Huawei P30 does include a single down-facing speaker.
The Huawei P30 comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, though, unlike the Galaxy Note 10. So, if you need that, the P30 should be your go-to phone. Both phones offer Dolby Atmos support, while the Galaxy Note 10’s speakers have been tuned by AKG: The Galaxy Note 10 does get a slight advantage in this category.

Conclusion

We cannot really end this comparison without mentioning the S Pen. The Galaxy Note 10’s stylus is better than ever, and if you need it, the Galaxy Note 10 is a great option. The Huawei P30 does not offer a stylus, though, so we did not have anything to compare that aspect of the Galaxy Note 10.

That brings us to the very end of our Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10 comparison. Both of these phones are pretty great. They both offer a great design, and great performance at the same time. Audio and cameras are great on both phones, and so are their displays.

They are almost equal across the board in terms of quality, but in our categories, the Galaxy Note 10 did get a slight advantage, as it won one more category than the Huawei P30.
