Puma has officially announced the Puma Smartwatch today, marking its first plunge into the Wear OS market.
You can expect most of the same features that are on every single Wear OS watch. And, despite it having a rather uninspired name, the wearable comes with the latest Wear OS features.
It’s being marketed towards consumers who want more of an active watch, and given the sporty design it’s not one you’d want to choose if you won’t wear it while being active.
Heart rate, GPS tracking, and more
Other than the design and the Puma brand, there’s not a whole lot here that’s different from the rest.
Then again, that’s the case with most watches, smart or not. Meaning you end up buying a watch for the brand and the style.
As you’d expect, the Puma Smartwatch comes with the Snapdragon Wear 3100 from Qualcomm, which can be found in other Wear OS watches like the recently announced Fossil Gen 5.
It comes with a heart rate sensor, GPS tracking, Google Assistant, and other typical smartwatch features. You’ll also find the ability to use Google Pay thanks to NFC, and access to controls for your music via the touch display.
Puma is boasting an ultra lightweight fit
Not all smartwatches are created equal. Some offer more features than others even if most are pretty similar. Where they tend to differ a little is the design, as well as the comfort.
Some are absolutely unenjoyable to wear longer than a few hours, while others are comfortable all day. Puma is indirectly stating that it’s Puma Smartwatch is the latter. It’s boasting that the device has an ultra lightweight fit, noting the use of cut-out nylon and aluminum for the case.
Since this is a smartwatch focused on more active stuff, there’s design features to tackle sweat too. The strap is made of a textured silicone that Puma says can maximize sweat, which presumably means help you sweat less.
At least that’s what it sounds like. The strap is designed to help with breathability during more active situations. Such as running or any other form of exercise. The watch is also swim proof up to 3 ATM so if you’re wanting to wear while you take a dip, go ahead.
Well-rounded specs
When it comes to specs, the Puma Smartwatch is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 as mentioned above. It also comes with 512MB of memory and 4GB of storage, a pretty standard amount for smartwatches.
The case only comes in a 44mm size, wrapped around a 1.19-inch AMOLED touch display. It’ll last you about 24 hours on a single charge, though there is a battery saver mode to extend that to at least two days if necessary.
The watch also features rapid charging and it weighs around 28g.
The watch will be available this November
Puma is launching this smartwatch this Fall, specifically in November. It hasn’t listed an exact date but it’ll be sometime that month.
It’ll cost $275, which all told isn’t that bad. You’ll be able to pick it up from Puma’s website and “select retailers” in Black, White, and Yellow color options.
