It’s time for the ASUS ZenFone 6 vs OnePlus 7T comparison. These two handsets are both flagship-grade offerings from their respective companies. Both of them are also quite affordable compared to other flagship phones in the market. That alone makes them worth comparing, for sure.

The ASUS ZenFone 6 is actually even more affordable than the OnePlus 7T. The device starts at $499 in the US, while the OnePlus 7T can be purchased from $599. Is it worth paying an extra $100 for the device over, the ZenFone 6? Well, that’s what we’re here to find out, basically.

In this comparison article, we’ll pit the ASUS ZenFone 6 vs OnePlus 7T in a number of categories. At the very end, we’ll consider winners from each of those categories, to make the final call. Do note that this is only our opinion, and your mileage may vary, of course.

Specifications

ASUS ZenFone 6 vs OnePlus 7T specs comparison

Design

Both of these phones look quite sleek. Both of them are made out of metal and glass, and both have fairly thin bezels. The OnePlus 7T’s bezels are thinner, though, that is worth noting. The phone has a considerably thinner “chin” than the ZenFone 6.

The ZenFone 6, on the other hand, does not have a display notch or a display hole. For that reason, you can take advantage of its full display, without any annoyances on it. The OnePlus 7T does have a display notch, though it includes a waterdrop display notch which is extremely small.

Both phones are quite slippery, and they actually weigh the same at 190 grams. They are fairly similar in terms of dimensions as well, though the OnePlus 7T is both shorter, narrower, and thinner than the ZenFone 6. The difference in thickness is quite obvious, as the OnePlus 7T is 1.1mm thinner. The main reason for the ZenFone 6’s thickness is its huge battery. We wouldn’t say that the phone is thick, at all, but it’s noticeably thicker than the OnePlus 7T.

Both devices have rather odd-looking camera setups on the back. The ZenFone 6 utilizes a pop-up camera setup, which includes two cameras. Those two cameras serve as both rear-facing and front-facing units. The OnePlus 7T, on the other hand, includes three cameras on the bottom, inside a circular camera setup. The ZenFone 6 also has a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back, unlike the OnePlus 7T.

Both of these phones look really nice. The OnePlus 7T offers thinner bezels, and a tiny notch. The ZenFone 6, on the other hand, no notch and slightly thicker bezels. Both phones have fairly odd-looking camera setups on the back. As far as the design is concerned, these two phones are on the same playing field in our book.

Winner: Tie

Display

Both of these phones include flat fullHD+ panels, though they’re fairly different. The ZenFone 6 comes with a 6.4-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) IPS LCD display. The OnePlus 7T, on the other hand, features a 6.55-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

We’ll say it from the get-go, the OnePlus 7T has a better display in this comparison. The OnePlus 7T’s display actually managed to beat the Galaxy Note 10+’s panel in most categories in a technical comparison. The only category it lost is the resolution, but that difference between a QHD+ and FullHD+ panels is not really visible when you hold them side-by-side.

OnePlus managed to reduce blue light emitting from the OnePlus 7T quite a bit. Due to that fact, the display looks extremely crisp. The ZenFone 6 does have one of the best fullHD+ IPS LCD displays in the business, but it cannot really stand up to the OnePlus 7T’s panel.

The OnePlus 7T’s display offers better color reproduction, contrast is way more pronounced, while those blacks are black. Viewing angles are really good on both displays, though. The OnePlus 7T’s panel also supports HDR10+ content, and 90Hz refresh rate. The ZenFone 6 is limited to 60Hz, and HDR10.

Winner: OnePlus 7T

Performance

OnePlus’ flagships are usually winners in performance comparisons. The same is the case here, but you’d be surprised how well the ZenFone 6 is holding up. Both phones are really smooth on a day-to-day basis, but the OnePlus 7T’s software optimizations plus that 90Hz display make it seem noticeably smoother and faster.

The OnePlus 7T also comes with UFS 3.0 flash storage, which is something the ZenFone 6 is not equipped with. The OnePlus 7T can open apps faster, and is also faster when it comes to multitasking, but not by much.

The ZenFone 6 comes with the Snapdragon 855, and either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. That, in addition to Android 9 Pie, and ZenUI 6, make this phone an excellent performer. ZenUI 6 is a lot different than the ZenUI 5, and that’s a good thing. ASUS removed a ton of bloatware from ZenUI, which only benefits the ZenFone 6.

Both phones can handle pretty much every game you throw at them, and won’t really struggle with it. We did notice a stutter from time to time on the ZenFone 6, which was not the case with the OnePlus 7T, for now. That is nothing to worry about, as both phones are really smooth in terms of performance.

Winner: OnePlus 7T

Battery life

ASUS has decided to include a fairly large battery inside the ZenFone 6. The phone features a 5,000mAh unit, compared to the OnePlus 7T’s 3,800mAh battery. The OnePlus 7T is actually fairly good when it comes to battery consumption, and can provide you 6+ hours of screen-on-time, at least that was the case for us. The ZenFone 6 goes beyond that, though, as expected.

If battery endurance is of utmost importance to you, the ZenFone 6 is a great option. This phone can go head-to-head with pretty much every flagship out there, and it will beat most of them as well in this regard.

Neither of these two smartphones offer wireless charging, though the ZenFone 6 does offer reverse charging (10W). The OnePlus 7T is equipped with faster battery charging, though, Warp Charge 30T. The ZenFone 6 includes 18W battery charging (Quick Charge 4). The ZenFone 6 is the winner of this category.

Winner: ASUS ZenFone 6

Cameras

The ASUS ZenFone 6 includes two cameras on the back, and it uses those cameras as front-facing ones as well. The OnePlus 7T, on the other hand, has three cameras on the back, and one on the front.

Both phones are equipped with a 48-megapixel main sensor. In both cases, that is Sony’s IMX586 sensor. The OnePlus 7T’s main camera does offer a camera lens with a more compelling aperture, though, while OIS is also included.

Both phones have a dedicated ultrawide camera, while the OnePlus 7T also includes a telephoto unit (2x optical zoom). So, are these phones capable in regards to capturing images, or?

Well, yeah, they’re both good, but the OnePlus 7T has an advantage. The OnePlus 7T can provide noticeably better shots in low light, while daytime shots from the phone also look a bit better to us. The dynamic range is better on the phone, while colors also seem to be a bit better-balanced than on the ZenFone 6. If you’re into selfies, however, the ZenFone 6 will do a better job, as it uses its rear-facing cameras for shooting selfies.

Winner: OnePlus 7T

Audio

If you’re listening to a lot of music, or consume plenty of multimedia on your phone, you’re probably wondering if the audio is any good. The good news is, audio is really good on both of these phones. They are not providing the best audio in the business, but very few people will complain when it comes to sound quality.

Both of them are equipped with stereo speakers, and those speakers are fairly good. They get plenty loud, and the distortion is barely noticeable when you tune them all the way up. The OnePlus 7T comes with Dolby Atmos sound, while the ZenFone 6 offers DTS Headphone X support.

The ZenFone 6 does have a 3.5 headphone jack, which is something the OnePlus 7T cannot say for itself. Sound quality through a pair of earphones is quite similar on both phones, they’re both fairly good, and offer balanced sound. Sound provided by the OnePlus 7T did seem a bit crisper to us, but we’ll end this category with a tie. The ZenFone 6 includes an audio jack, after all.

Winner: Tie

Conclusion

That brings us to the end of the ZenFone 6 vs OnePlus 7T comparison. All in all, the OnePlus 7T is the winner of this comparison. This phone is worth spending an extra $100 in our opinion, as it beats the ZenFone 6 in most of these categories. The ZenFone 6 is a fairly good device as well, and you won’t make a mistake by picking that one up.

It all depends on what you need from a phone. If you take a lot of selfies and want great battery life, get the ZenFone 6. If you like buttery smoothness when it comes to performance, and also want better cameras and display, get the OnePlus 7T.
