Huawei-owned Honor has a new phone incoming, the Honor V30, and the device has now cropped up in seemingly official renders with redesigned cameras and no headphone port. Showcased in a bright blue or orange configuration as provided to 91mobiles, the renders are somewhat blurry. But they are reportedly official.
In the images, the phone’s display houses two forward-facing selfie cameras. Honor has tucked those into an oblong oval at the top-left-hand edge. That places them just opposite of where the camera cutouts are on the Samsung Galaxy S10+.
Conversely, there’s no 3.5mm audio jack shown in the renders, suggesting that port will not be included. Instead of that, along the top edge, Honor has included what appears to be an IR blaster and a mic port. The bottom edge holds the USB-C port, circle-hole style speaker grill, SIM drawer, and another mic. So Honor will likely utilize USB-C-based audio instead, along with Bluetooth.
The Honor V30 renders are difficult to discern but reveal quite a lot
No details have been provided regarding the specifications of the new camera layout just yet. Specifications are also still being kept well under wraps. Those are details that will undoubtedly leak in the interim, as has been the current trend with devices being outed before their respective announcements.
There are still some details that can be ascertained from the images regardless.
To begin with, the usually vertical pill-shaped primary camera housing has been replaced on this Honor-branded device. Honor has widened that into a tall, rectangular shape with three camera sensors and an LED flash. The lenses appear to be larger than might be expected.
That might implicate a larger-than-usual megapixel size for the snappers. Samsung has released and Xiaomi since used — in its Mi CC9 Pro — a 108-megapixel snapper for smartphones. So it’s possible that the company plans to use a similarly specced hardware here. But that won’t be clear until Honor makes an official announcement.
The protrusion of the cameras does seem to be less pronounced on this device than on previous Honor handsets.
The fingerprint scanner on this device resides in the right-hand edge when facing the screen of the device. As with other Honor-branded devices, that appears to be placed in the power button. Honor embedded the button itself in a groove in the frame. Just above that, the company includes a more traditional volume rocker.
Other rumors about the V30 are less certain
Honor’s V30 isn’t too far out if rumors up until this point have been accurate. The handset will reportedly launch on or around November 26. It will ship with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage backing an AI-focused Kirin 990 chipset. It will also be the first Kirin-powered handset made by Honor to deliver 5G connections where available.
That hardware tends to be battery intensive so the current speculation is that Honor will choose to use a bigger, 4,000mAh capacity battery with 22.5W fast charging. That will drive an LCD panel too if rumors are accurate. using LCD could be yet another way Honor hopes to keep battery life up and recharge cycles down. A newer Android 10-derived EMUI 10 will power the user experience.
Honor and Huawei’s tradition will also reportedly be followed in terms of device variants. Namely, the company will launch a more powerful Honor V30 “Pro” at the same time.
That’s rumored to include an extra camera on the back, nearly double the charging rate, and a battery that’s 500mAh larger. The panel on that may also be an OLED screen instead, with the fingerprint scanner found under the panel instead of in the side-mounted power button.
The Chinese handset-maker is purportedly set to price for its V30 at just under $556, putting it squarely in the midrange t0 budget-flagship category.
