OPPO has hosted its INNO Day 2019 event in China today. The event was hosted under the theme of ‘Create Beyond Boundaries’, and OPPO actually showed off some interesting products.

OPPO brought various products to the event, all of them prototypes

The company showcased a variety of smart devices, including smartwatches, smart headphones, 5G CPE, and even its AR glasses. It also talked about its innovation in the area of fast charging, 5G, and imaging and software optimization.

The company’s founder and CEO, Tony Chen, attended the event. Mr. Chen actually opened this event by emphasizing the importance of 5G and AI. Highlighting those two areas as the future of technology.

The company’s CEO also highlighted OPPO’s strategy in the coming years. He announced an R&D budget of RMB 50 billion ($7 billion) for the next three years. That budget will be used to develop core technologies in hardware, software, and system, in addition to 5G/6G, AI, AR, big data, and other ‘frontier technologies’.

In order to push technology on the 5G front, OPPO will implement three strategies. The company will remain committed to core technology R&D to develop world-leading tech. The second strategy is the development of a multi-portal ecosystem of intelligent devices with smartphones serving as the key gateway. The company also promised to rethink user service and optimize its content and service offerings, that is its third and last strategy.

The company’s Vice President and Head of OPPO Research Institute, Levin Liu, said that the company plans to launch smartwatches, smart wireless headphones, and 5G CPE in Q1 2020.

The company did not really elaborate much on any of the products that are coming. OPPO also did not share much info about products that it showcased at the event, the ones that we mentioned earlier. Those were not exactly announcements of those products, but rather demo devices for attendees to play around with.

AR glasses are one of the most interesting devices OPPO showed off

Now, OPPO’s AR glasses are quite probably the most interesting product that OPPO showcased. We don’t have much info about those either, but we do have some.

You can check out those AR glasses in an image below this paragraph. These are only a prototype, so the final product may look a bit different.

The prototype that the company showed off includes four cameras. There are two fisheye cameras, one HD camera, and a Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera. These glasses also offer 3D surround sound. That is pretty much all the info that OPPO released, other than their design.

The company’s smartphone with an under-display camera also made an appearance

On top of all that, the company brought a prototype smartphone with an under-display camera to the event. We’ve seen this technology demoed a while back, by the company, but attendees could actually play around with the device.

One of those attendees was David Imel, who showed off this camera in action. You can check out how it works in the video provided below, as part of a tweet. All in all, it seems like OPPO has a lot planned for next year.
