Sony has started rolling out the Android 10 update to its Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 series devices. A while back, Sony promised to update a number of its devices to Android 10 starting in early 2020. Well, so far, the company delivered on that promise.

The Sony Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium, and XZ3 are currently receiving the Android 10 update. This update is not rolling out worldwide just yet, though.

This update is currently seeding to devices in Northern and Central Europe, the Baltics, Russia, and to unbranded US variants. Other markets will follow soon.

Android 10 brings a number of features to the Xperia XZ2 & XZ3 devices

Android 10 brings a number of new features to these devices, as expected. The Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 series devices will get a system-wide dark mode thanks to this update, a highly-requested feature.

On top of that, Android 10 will improve the share menu on the devices, while it will also add some security-related features, such as improved locations permissions.

Do note that Sony hasn’t updated its launcher just yet, though. Therefore, don’t expect this update to deliver enhanced gesture navigation (Google’s). The company did say that the feature is coming soon, though.

In case you own any of these phones, and live in one of the regions we’ve mentioned, the update should be available to you. If it is not, it will be in the near future, as this is a staged rollout, of course.

You can wait for your device to let you know that the update is available, or you can check manually. For manual checking, navigate to the Settings apps, and then go to System -> System Updates.

You can also install this update via the Xperia Companion tool

Now, you can also use Sony Xperia Companion, the company’s desktop program, in order to install this update.

Those of you who own the Sony Xperia 10 or 10 Plus, the update should come your way soon. Those are the only devices listed by Sony to get Android 10 in “early 2020”, and are not included on the initial list.

We’d guess that the update will arrive soon for those phones as well. Probably later this month, or next month, but Sony still hasn’t confirmed a release date, or anything of the sort.

Still, the company delivered this update for four of its devices at the same time. All four of those phones were the company’s flagships at one point or the other, so it’s nice to see that Sony is improving in the update department.
