Sony’s alleged flagship has just leaked, it seems, meet the Sony Xperia 5 Plus. @Onleaks has partnered up with Slashleaks in order to share the Sony Xperia 5 Plus renders.
Those renders have been shared both in image and video formats, leaving little to the imagination. These are CAD-based renders, by the way. Renders are not the only piece of info that got shared when it comes to the Sony Xperia 5 Plus, the source also shared some spec info.
The Sony Xperia 5 Plus renders reveal a sleek-looking, tall phone, with no display holes or notches
If you take a look at the provided images, you’ll see a really tall phone. The device also does not have a display camera hole, or a notch. It does have really thin bezels above and below the display, though.
You will also notice that the volume up and down buttons are placed on the right. A physical camera shutter button is also included on the right, as is a capacitive fingerprint scanner.
On the back, this phone has three cameras, and a ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor. Those cameras are vertically aligned, while an LED flash sits above all of them. The camera module does protrude a bit here.
Sony’s logo is also included on the back, and the device is ever so slightly curved on the sides, both front and back. Do note that its display is not curved, though.
This phone does include a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it is placed at the top of the phone. The source also lists “boxy metal frames” as part of the phone’s design, and the same goes for dual front-facing speakers.
It will offer a 6.6-inch flat OLED display & narrow design
The source claims that the Sony Xperia 5 Plus will include a 6.6-inch flat OLED display, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone will roughly measure 168.2 x 71.6 x 8.1mm (9.3mm including the camera bump).
The source did not list SoC or RAM info for the device. Therefore, we cannot say, for sure, that this is Sony’s upcoming flagship, but based on the specs that got shared, and its design… it almost certainly is.
This could be the phone Sony fans have been waiting for. Not notches, not display holes, only minimal bezels above and below the display. Flat display, a physical camera shutter, and front-facing speakers.
Sony needs to nail the camera aspect of this smartphone, though. The Sony Xperia 1 was an improvement over its predecessors, but this device really needs to deliver in that department.
If Sony manages to do that, and offer the right price tag for this phone… well, the device may be more relevant than the company’s previous flagships were. We’re not sure when will this phone arrive, but it’s quite possible it’ll arrive in Q1 2020, stay tuned.
