Last year Riot games gave people a taste of its upcoming League of Legends card game called Legends of Runeterra.
It was available for a short period of time (just ten days) in a closed beta state that allowed people to check out what the game was like and give feedback to the developers. Now Riot is closing in on the open beta, which is due to begin Friday.
The open beta for Legends of Runeterra will give anyone who pre-registers a chance to test the game and see what it has to offer. And to help players prepare for the upcoming beta Riot has put out a set of new patch notes filled with tons of changes and updated information.
Legends of Runeterra open beta begins early for pre-registered players
The open beta goes live for everybody on Friday, January 24 officially. However if you pre-register (or if you’ve already pre-registered) for it you’ll gain access on January 23, which is tomorrow.
That’ll give you a day to get the leg up on anyone who doesn’t hop in until Friday. And any extra time to get to know things is never a bad idea if you want to stay ahead of the game. In today’s patch notes, there’s a lot of detail on what changes the beta will include.
This can also help you prepare for the battles ahead against your opponents. If you’re looking for something a little different than Hearthstone, give this card game based on the League of Legends universe a try.
Any progress made in the open beta stays with you
The biggest change being made to the game in preparation for the open beta is on the account progression.
When the beta first launched last year, any progress made or things acquired in-game was wiped clean. This time around, Riot is choosing to forego a purge and will instead let you keep anything you get.
So if you gain new cards during the beta, level your rank, etc., you’ll still have all of that once the game launches officially later in the year. Which is good news for anyone planning to spend a significant amount of time within the game once the open beta goes live.
Ranked mode is also new to this version of the beta as it wasn’t available during the first one. So you will actually be able to try your hand against other live opponents to see who comes away the victor.
The open beta will also feature a new social panel to keep up with online friends as well as enable chat features. There’s a whole lot more that’s been updated for this beta too, and you can check out the full list of patch notes here.
