When HMD Global announced it was pulling out of Mobile World Congress amid coronavirus fears, it said it will be holding a series of Nokia Live events instead. And now, the Chief Product Officer of the company, Juho Sarvikas, has teased a replacement event.
MWC has always been a key stage for the Finnish company to launch new products. However, out of concern for different stakeholders, HMD Global decided against attending MWC. Later on, the conference was canceled altogether.
Sarvikas has now taken to Twitter to tease a new event. It will be held on March 19 in London. Chances are that the company will announce new phones during the event.
The teaser doesn’t give any details. However, it’s heavy on the James Bond theme, implying that a collaboration is on the cards.
The short video clip is accompanied by a caption that reads: “No Time To Wait. We have something very special lined up for you.”
Apparently, Nokia is gearing up to release “James Bond 007 edition” Kevlar cases for its Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 handsets.
The Hardcase back covers will be made of Kevlar, which is a material that is said to be a lot stronger than steel. And if you are wondering just how strong it is, it goes into the production of bullet-proof vests. The case will apparently cost around $28 and it will reportedly be available in Europe and Australia.
Here Are All The Phones That HMD Global Will Likely Announce
The new lineup will likely have something for all. That’s because HMD Global is tipped to launch one flagship and various mid-tier and entry-level handsets.
That said, there is a possibility that the Nokia 9 PureView successor will not make it to the event. That’s apparently because the phone has been delayed so it’s underpinned by the Snapdragon 865 SoC. However, the company might reveal some details about it during the event.
Other than that, the company is also tipped to unveil the Nokia 8.2, both in LTE and 5G flavors. The mid-range 5G model will supposedly have the Snapdragon 765G chipset under the hood. The processor will presumably be mated with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. The phone will likely feature a 32-megapixel pop-up front camera.
Moreover, the company is also tipped to launch the Nokia 5.2. The budget phone will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 632 and sport a 6.2-inche LCD screen with a notch. It will reportedly be available in 3GB and 4GB RAM options and 32GB and 64GB storage variants.
The phone will apparently have a dual camera set up and will cost around $190.
The Nokia 1.3 might also make a debut during the event. Rumor has it that the phone will feature a 6-inch LCD screen. It will probably be fueled by a MediaTek chipset and offer 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It will apparently run Android 10 Go Edition and will cost nearly $90
Additionally, a new range called Nokia Originals might also break cover. The company also recently filed for a new eSIM technology with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Thus, some of these phones might be eSIM compatible.
