Netflix has updated the list of devices that support HD and HDR content playback. The renewed list now includes dozens of devices from the Samsung Galaxy phone and tablet lineup.

Netflix officially supports a device for HD content once certain criteria are met and internal testing at Netflix is passed. Netflix officially certifies a device for HD playback if it possesses the Widevine DRM’s L1 certification level. For HDR-10 playback, the device needs to be Widevine DRM L1 certified and should also possess an HDR-10 capable display.

Once a device has the required certifications and passed internal testing at Netflix, the company updates the official list of HD & HDR playback supported devices.

Netflix has completed testing a huge list of Samsung tablets and smartphones. HD playback supported devices include the Samsung Galaxy Tab A series, the Samsung Galaxy S5e and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite tablets.

Netflix supports HD content on dozens of Samsung Galaxy phones as well. These include the Samsung Galaxy A9, Samsung Galaxy A10e, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G & S10 Lite, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, etc.

Samsung’s recently launched Samsung Galaxy S20 series, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, are some of the notable mentions which support HDR-10 content on the Netflix app. The complete list of devices supporting HD and HDR content is available in the help section of the Netflix website.

Ensure to update the Netflix app to version 5.0 for your supported Android device for streaming Netflix in HDR. HDR playback and streaming is only available on the Ultra HD plans. Upgrade your Netflix plan to support Ultra HD streaming. Be sure to check your plan on the Netflix app or website.

Ultra HD and HDR streaming require a steady internet connection with a minimum speed of 25 megabits per second. You will also need to ensure that your playback settings on the Netflix app are set to “High”.

If you still face any issues with HD and HDR content playback on Netflix, make sure that your device is running the latest firmware version.

Netflix and Samsung had announced a partnership earlier this year during the Samsung Unpacked 2020 event. Netflix Chief Marketing Officer Jackie Lee-Joe has confirmed that Netflix is now the official mobile entertainment partner to Samsung.

Samsung users can search in the standard search bar for Netflix shows or movies. They are also able to receive secondary recommendations in the search bar as well.

If you stream HD & HDR content on your mobile device and you’re rocking a supported Samsung Galaxy device, do let us know your experience in the comments section.
