OnePlus has finally given us a date for the OnePlus 8 Series launch. It’ll go down on April 14, at 11AM EDT.

This makes the OnePlus 8 Series debut a bit earlier than the OnePlus 7 Series and even the OnePlus 6, the past couple of years. Last year, the OnePlus 7 Series was announced in mid-May. This year, it’s mid-April. It’s likely that OnePlus wants to get the device out sooner rather than later, even amid the current pandemic.

Availability could still be affected by Coronavirus

While China has mostly recovered from the illness, manufacturing in the country was still shut down for over a month. The OnePlus 8 will be made in China, like its previous smartphones. But there could still be some issues with getting the device into other regions and countries. Like the US, for example.

Right now, North America and Europe are grappling with the illness, and it’s hitting these regions pretty hard. For OnePlus, those are some of their biggest regions. Which is going to make getting their device into those regions and sales, pretty difficult.

So after the OnePlus 8 Series is announced, it is possible that we could see some limited supply once the device goes on sale. It’s unlikely that OnePlus would bring back the Invite System, but we wouldn’t rule that out right now.

Expect OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro

Similar to the OnePlus 7 event last year, the company will likely launch the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro at this event.

It is also likely that it will do the launch the same as last year, where certain countries get the OnePlus 8 and others get the OnePlus 8 Pro. But we can’t say for certain yet. We’ll know more come April 14.

The OnePlus 8 series will be coming with Android 10 and of course the latest version of Oxygen OS. It’ll also come with the latest and greatest specs, including the Snapdragon 865 chipset, at least 12GB of RAM and probably 256GB or more storage. Though some of these specs have not leaked out, however considering OnePlus’ history, it’s very possible that this is what we see.

OnePlus is also reportedly planning a “OnePlus 8 Lite”, which may or may not be announced at this event as well. Of course, OnePlus isn’t going to confirm anything regarding these phones until the big day. So we’ll just have to tune in and see what OnePlus has for us. We’ll of course be covering the OnePlus 8 Series launch on April 14.
