HONOR has introduced three new flagship smartphones today, the HONOR 30, 30 Pro, and 30 Pro+. All three phones have been announced in China, but will make their way to other markets. We’ll talk about the HONOR 30 and 30 Pro in this article, while we’ll cover the HONOR 30 Pro+ separately.

You may notice that HONOR used the same approach as Huawei here. Huawei introduced the P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+ flagships recently, while HONOR did something similar with its lineup.

All three devices that HONOR announced are considered to be flagship-grade

The HONOR 30 Pro+ is the most powerful of the three devices. All three are considered to be flagship-grade phones, though, same as with Huawei’s P40 series. The similarities are not exactly odd, as HONOR is owned by Huawei.

First and foremost, let’s just say that all three devices support 5G connectivity. All three actually look quite similar, but there are some differences to talk about in that department as well. That’s actually the first thing we’ll talk about.

The HONOR 30 is the only phone in the series to offer a flat display. It is also the only one that has a single camera hole in the display, the other two have a pill-shaped hole. All three phones are made out of metal and glass, and all three of them have multiple cameras on the back.

The power / lock, volume up, and volume down buttons are placed on the right-hand side of all three devices. Their rear-facing camera modules do protrude a bit, in case you were wondering. Now that the design section is over, we’ll talk about the HONOR 30 and 30 Pro separately, as there’s much to say.

HONOR 30

The HONOR 30 features a 6.53-inch flat fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) display (we’re not sure if it’s OLED or LCD). The phone is fueled by the Kirin 985 64-bit octa-core processor. That is not the most powerful processor Huawei has to offer at the moment.

The Kirin 990 is the most powerful chip from Huawei, while the Kirin 985 sits in-between the Kirin 980 and 990. The Kirin 985 is actually a brand new chip. All in all, this phone is kind of inferior to the HONOR 30 Pro and 30 Pro+ in more than one way.

The device comes with 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of internal storage (expandable). A 4,000mAh battery is included in the phone, and it supports fast charging.

It includes four cameras on the back

Now, the HONOR 30 is also inferior to its siblings in the camera department. The device includes four cameras on the back, but not a 50-megapixel sensor like the HONOR 30 Pro+. That 50-megapixel main sensor is also used by the Huawei P40 series.

The HONOR 30 comes with a 40-megapixel main camera (f/1.8 aperture, wide-angle lens) just like the HONOR 30 Pro, along with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.4 aperture). An 8-megapixel telephoto camera (f/3.4 aperture, OIS) is also included, as is a 2-megapixel macro camera (f/2.4 aperture).

A single 32-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) sits on the front side of this device. The phone offers two SIM card slots, and will become available this month, at least in China. We still do not have any information regarding its global availability.

The device comes with Android 10, and HONOR’s Magic UI 3.1.0 skin. The device will be available in Midnight Black, Emerald Green, Icelandic Frost, Neon Purple, and Titanium Silver color variants, by the way. Pricing for the HONOR 30 starts at CNY2,999 ($424) in China.

HONOR 30 Pro

The HONOR 30 Pro does include a curved display, and a pill-shaped camera hole in the top-left corner. The phone features a 6.57-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) display. This is probably an OLED panel.

The device is fueled by the Kirin 990 64-bit octa-core processor, and it comes with 8GB of RAM. The phone can be purchased in 128GB or 256GB storage flavors, though. Storage is expandable.

Two SIM card slots are included here, and Android 10 comes pre-installed. On top of Google’s OS, you’ll find HONOR’s Magic UI 3.1.0 skin.

40W fast wired charging is supported, and there are two selfie cameras included

A 4,000mAh battery is included in this phone, and it does support fast charging. You can utilize 40W fast wired charging on this smartphone, while it does not support wireless charging.

The device includes a 40-megapixel main camera (f/1.8 aperture, wide-angle lens), and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.2 aperture). An 8-megapixel telephoto camera (f/3.4 aperture, AF, OIS) is also included. Laser autofocus and PDAF are also included in the package.

A 32-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) sits on the front side of the device, along with an 8-megapixel secondary camera (f/2.2 aperture).

This phone will also go on sale in April in China. It will also become available outside of China, but it is not known when exactly. The device comes in Emerald Green, Icelandic Frost, Midnight Black, Neon Purple, and Titanium Silver color variants. The phone’s pricing in China starts at CNY3,999 ($566).
