The OnePlus 8 Pro is confirmed to support QHD+ resolution at 120Hz refresh-rate. Which is something that the Samsung Galaxy S20 series can’t do out of the box. There is word that Samsung will enable that as a feature later on, but as for now, 120Hz is only available at FHD+.
Now, we know that the OnePlus 8 Pro will support QHD+ resolution at 120Hz, because of a video that MKBHD released on his Twitter account earlier today. Showing off the OnePlus 8 Pro in a concealed case, so that the only thing you can see is the display. As that is the only thing he is able to share right now. Since the device isn’t being announced until tomorrow.
But in the video, Marques shows us that you can enable 120Hz, while still using QHD+ resolution.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is also curved, and sports HDR10+
In the short (less than 2 minute video), Marques also confirmed that this display supports HDR10+. And we can see that it is curved. Which is no surprise at all, considering the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro were both curved as well.
Having HDR10+ support here means that you’re going to be able to watch HDR content from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and more providers, out of the box. That might not sound like a big deal to many, but it will give you a much nicer picture on titles that were shot in HDR.
Marques also notes how the OnePlus 8 Pro display is noticeably brighter than on its predecessor. That is going to be great for those that use their phones outdoors in direct sunlight a lot.
OnePlus 8 series is being announced tomorrow, April 14
We’ll know everything there is to know about the OnePlus 8 and the 8 Pro tomorrow when OnePlus officially announces the new phone.
Right now, we’re only expecting to see two phones from OnePlus tomorrow. But there is word of a mid-range smartphone coming from the company. However, it looks like that one might be coming later this year.
Expect a price bump on the OnePlus 8 series this year. OnePlus always increases the price every single year, but this year it is going all-in on 5G. Which is going to raise the price as well. As those 5G modems are not cheap. So expect the OnePlus 8 Pro to be close to $999. But given the specs and features of the OnePlus 8 Pro, it might actually be worth that price.
