T-Mobile announced on Thursday that its customers will be getting Quibi included with their account, similar to the “Netflix On Us” promotion that its been running for years. This means that anyone on the Magenta or T-Mobile One Family Plan with at least two lines of service will get Quibi for free.
Quibi launches on April 6, and will cost $4.99 for a ad-supported membership or $7.99 for an ad-free membership.
Once again, customers with a single line are left out
T-Mobile is once again leaving out customers that only have a single line with the carrier. Those with a single line could not get the Netflix On Us feature, since T-Mobile required two or more lines on its newer plans. And now the same is happening with Quibi.
Most of the deals from T-Mobile and other carriers are also for multi-line plans, like family plans. But they need to do more to appeal to those with a single line.
As mentioned, you do need to have two or more voice lines at standard rates on a Magenta, or T-Mobile One plan with taxes and fees included. T-Mobile also notes that First Responder, Military and Magenta Plus 55 plans are eligible. Small business customers with up to 12 lines are eligible too.
Quibi is a new streaming service focusing on shorter videos
We already have a ton of streaming services out there, but Quibi thinks it can hit a niche that no other service has hit yet. And that’s short-form video.
Quibi is focusing on quick bites of content, with majority of its shows being 10 minutes or less. And because of this, it will be showing movies in chapters. It has a bunch of content already lined up, from names like Chrissy Teigen, Jennifer Lopez, Will Forte, BBC News and 60 Minutes. And Quibi is getting more and more people signing up to make content for it.
It’ll be similar to Netflix than YouTube, where users can’t upload their own videos. So don’t expect Quibi to have a ton of content available on day one. However, Chrissy Teigen’s new show is getting a lot of hype right now and will likely be very popular.
Quibi is another streaming service that is not free, even though it has ads. The ad-free tier is going to cost you $7.99 and the ad-support tier is $4.99. T-Mobile is only offering its customers the ad-free tier for $4.99. But combine Quibi with the Netflix On Us, and you’re getting loads of content for free from T-Mobile.
