Sony will be shipping its flagship Xperia 1 II in the US starting July 24th. Apart from the top-notch specifications, the device also gets some exclusive camera-centric features. It even includes a new gaming feature to make the battery last longer than usual.

The performance of smartphones has improved considerably over the past couple of years. Now, we even have smartphone brands catering solely to gamers. While phones get hotter during long gaming sessions, the companies are coming up with some unique cooling solutions.

Use Xperia 1 II just by charging with a new gaming feature

The RedMagic 5G gaming smartphone sports a built-in fan for better heat dissipation. Sony is approaching the same problem in a different way with the Xperia 1 II. The phone can be directly powered with the charger instead of charging the battery while gaming.

When the “H.S. Power Control” (H.S. = Heat Suppression) option in the game mode is enabled, the phone will no longer use the battery to power it. The new Xperia flagship comes with a 4,000mAh battery and supports USB PD fast-charging and Qi Wireless charging. With the battery remaining idle during gaming sessions, the heat generation will be minimal.

It will also increase the longevity of the battery

The H.S. Power Control can be turned on for apps under the “Game enhancer” menu. Additionally, this new feature will also increase the longevity of the smartphone battery. The Xperia 1 II sports a 6.5-inch OLED HDR display with 4K (3840 x 1644 pixels) resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio.

While the refresh rate is still limited to just 60Hz, the company is offering motion blur reduction for a smoother experience. Under the hood is the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform coupled with an Adreno 650 GPU and 8GB of RAM. It offers 256GB of internal storage with MicroSD card support.

The device runs on Android 10 out of the box with the Xperia UI laid on top. As seen on many other Xperia smartphones, the 2020 flagship is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, which is a very good thing. It even features a true stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support. On the right edge, there’s a fingerprint scanner along with a dedicated shutter button.

It sports a 12-megapixel triple camera setup on the rear along with a 3D ToF sensor and an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front. The Sony Xperia 1 II will be costing $1,199 in the US. All pre-orders placed before June 28th will be coming with a pair of WF-1000XM3 noise-cancelling wireless earbuds for free.
